"Okay listen"
It took me sometime to get through this listen. The story drags and the premise has such promise but the execution of the idea is a disappointment.
"Not the history we learn in school - great listen"
I enjoyed this book and I appreciate more the internal conflict a journalist can feel in trying to be objective when the passion of the time leaves little doubt as to what the right thing to do is. I appreciated more the British contributions to the war and while I can't ever really admire Eisenhower as the author does, I do understand better how he became president. The live as though you are dying culture, with easy sex amoung those that held fast and made a stand during the hardest of times was a surprise though on reflection it seems a natural socialogical consequence.
The narration was monotone, a lost opportunity to help the author give voice to the story, the narrator gave a weak performance. I give it only four stars because at times I found the story jumping about and hard in spots to follow a problem exaggerated by poor narration.
A different view of a war and well worth the download and a little patience.
"More than I expected more than I remembered"
I liked Gerald Ford when I was a young girl growing up in California. I too had a 5 minute meeting with the Charles Mason family that creeps me still, the aura of evil that radiated from the group is hard to forget. The attempts on Ford's life in California recounted in this oral history of private thoughts brought back a moment in history where I remembered a comment by the then Governor Jerry Brown, "California has more than its share of everything, including nuts." How I wonder, as apparently did Ford, is a letter from a would be killer worth more than one from Sadat? The world can be a topsy turvy place.
I truly enjoyed this nostagic account of great leadership and how fortunate we were to have the right man in the right place at the right time.
"Starts Legacy Trilogy, a fun story and performance"
A twist on the bastard daughter who learns to be self possessed and creative. She sees her hero for his flaws. A nicely drawn set of characters and with an audio performance that adds the entertainment of the story line. I truly enjoyed this reader's ability.
"In the Legacy Trilogy, my favorite"
In the Legacy series, I like the Nightingale story more than I actually did the first story. The hero and heroine as characters are robustly written as are some of the other supporting characters. The audio reader did a very good job but for the first time in an audible download there was some recording degregation. I heard background noise that was distracting but, the story and the reading were entertaining. So 5 stars for a regency romance and an audio performance, 1 star for the production team and sound editor.
"Good story and good audio performance"
This is a good story though not as good as the first two Legacy books in the trilogy. It should be listened to last. The audio performance is good. A nice twist to Blackbeard's loot. Each of the books in the trilogy has a different audio reader but the perforances are well done and the differences are not distracting. The scenes with the former father-in-law and the herione suffering so multiple head injuries a trifle tiring and so 3 stars.
"Abridged but okay"
The abridgement for this book is better done than the Fiery Cross abridgement. A reasonable substitute until the unabridged version becomes available. Enough story to allow you to follow the next book, Echo in the Bone though some continunity issues occur. I liked the reader well enough and while I may have been attached to the unabridged books' reader from habit I still think this reader did well.
"really looking forward to the unabridged version"
A poorly abridged version of the original work. In later books in this wonderful series the story will miss continunity. The abridgement is not as well as the Snow and Ashes abridgement. This one is very poorly done, so badly done Audible should provide readers who bought this abridgement some partial credit when the unabridged version becomes available.
"Passion for living, a classy & sensual heroine"
This heroine is her own person with an individualistic point of view. Well written steamy material with a plot and sub-plot that fit together well. A stellar female voice performance that suits the story beatuifully. A completely female point of view to her passionate sensuality and love. Easy to like main character with real vulnerabilties and strengths she is the hero in her own life. I will want more from this classy writer and the charming voice of the reader.
"Could not get through the whinning"
Divorced after 30 years, a woman who is upset about her 30 something son was too depressing to stick with. My rating may be unfair since I could not make past the first chapter.
"Bar Cynster's toughest case"
I liked the story and the performance of Simon Prebble does well with the material.
