  • Unholy Ghosts: Downside Ghosts, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 10 mins)
    • By Stacia Kane
    • Narrated By Bahni Turpin
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In a future world under attack from the undead, the powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Consequently, there are many false claims of hauntings from those hoping to profit. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully-tattooed witch and freewheeling ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for nailing human liars and banishing the wicked dead.

    T. Hernandez says: "Not for the faint of heart"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

the Reader's performance was good and the story line was OK, but WAY too much language and drug references.

What could Stacia Kane have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Way less swearing and drug references. Practically every sentence has a swear word in it. My ears were bleeding. You can tell a good story without having to resort to that.DOn't promote drug use.I learned more about drugs then I ever wanted to. The story line wasn't too bad. the writing minus the language was actually decent not great but decent.

Have you listened to any of Bahni Turpin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

  • Shine: Shade, Book 3

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 9 mins)
    • By Jeri Smith-Ready
    • Narrated By Khristine Hvam
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Life can change in an instant, and no one understands that better than Aura. It’s been almost a year since her boyfriend died tragically. She’s finally letting go of Logan’s violet-hued ghost, but not her search to uncover the truth about her past. In this dramatic conclusion to the Shade trilogy, Aura and Zachary’s relationship sizzles as the secrets of the Shift are revealed.

The Book Nympho says: "Great Ending to the Trilogy"
"Excellent ending to a good series"
If you could sum up Shine in three words, what would they be?

    Decent love story

What other book might you compare Shine to and why?

Same flavor as the Mortal Instruments series by Casandra Clare. Not in plot, but in intensity and character development.. the love story components have a similar flavor of struggle to them

    Which scene was your favorite?

the struggle with the locals when they are tied down and they both almost die. That wasn't even part of the main plot, but it fit right in and scared me a bit to think they might actually die. I love that....the unexpected and when an author is not afraid to kill of characters or at least make you think that.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

All of the chase scenes were pretty intense and there were quite a few. You think they're safe only to have another problem come up. The inner struggles of her boyfriend in dealing with his father dying and his own imprisonment... deep for a YA. The Love story is pretty powerful to. It's an interesting view on the afterlife.

    Any additional comments?

Really good resolution to a good YA paranormal love story.

  • Beyond the Highland Mist: Highlander, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 7 mins)
    • By Karen Marie Moning
    • Narrated By Phil Gigante
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

He was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart - until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland.

Benoibe says: "I'm so in love and I'm SO moving to Scotland!"
What disappointed you about Beyond the Highland Mist?

everything. No development of character. Reminded me of the 99 cent romance novels with no plot or explanations. It was cheesy and painful to listen to. the male readers impression of female voices was disturbing.

What was most disappointing about Karen Marie Moning’s story?

I loved her Fever series and this is NOTHING like it. its terrible. Major plot holes, no romantic tension, very predictable,

What didn’t you like about Phil Gigante’s performance?

His female voices were terrible. It made them sound like the perpetual victim bambi's that made the main character sound cheap. The male voices were way too cheesy like a cheap beer commercial ad.

What character would you cut from Beyond the Highland Mist?

The main female character was awful and as the whole book centers on her it's just plain bad.

    Any additional comments?

Don't waste your time on this book. Awful.. :P
