Tennyson: Don’t get me started on the Bruiser. He was voted “Most Likely to Get the Death Penalty” by the entire school. He’s the kid no one knows, no one talks to, and everyone hears disturbing rumors about. So why is my sister, Brontë, dating him? One of these days she’s going to take in the wrong stray dog, and it’s not going to end well.BronteMy brother has no right to talk about Brewster that way — no right to threaten him. There’s a reason why Brewster can’t have friends — why he can’t care about too many people.

This is a nice story; misunderstood, outcast teen, girl that likes bad boys, she has a protective brother. After the three get close they notice the bruises and scratches. Bruiser's girl and her brother notice changes; no pain, winning games. When they figure out the secret it is not easy to give it up.

I read A Thousand Splendid Suns and expected another excellent story like that one. It is pretty good, but I wouldn't have read A Thousand Splendid Suns if I'd read this one first. There were too many people in this story that they just seemed to be all over the place. Even when the connection was made, I still felt something had been lost in the telling of what should have been a good generational story.

William "Wild Bill" Guarnere and Edward "Babe" Heffron were among the first paratroopers of the U.S. Army - members of an elite unit of the 101st Airborne Division called Easy Company. Arguably the bravest, most efficient, physically fit, and tight-knit group of soldiers the Army has ever produced, the unit was called upon for every high-risk operation of the war, including D-Day, Operation Market Garden in Holland, the Battle of the Bulge, and the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden.

This isn't a book of stories although in any book like this there are "stories" There are many soldiers that are in the book and as tough as it was, many of them come home to the yearly gathering. Even when the worst of the descriptions were being read, I followed with interest rather than the pain I have felt in other books like this. The only thing that sort of bothered me was that there was a single narrator and two men that were telling the story. Even though they were from the same town in PA, I wished the narrator would have changed his voice enough to distinguish the two men a little more. I know that many times I wasn't sure of who was speaking. The two men would recount a single event and I would wonder if I'd somehow jumped back in the recording.
All in all, I did like the book and thought it would be good for anyone looking for another book to follow Band of Brothers.

Maybe it was a grandparent, or a teacher, or a colleague. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, helped you see the world as a more profound place, gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it. For Mitch Albom, that person was Morrie Schwartz, his college professor from nearly 20 years ago.

I'd known about this story for years and have even been told I should read it. So when this was on the sale list, I finally did. It wasn't bad, in fact I did enjoy it. It wasn't as good as I expected and I have read books that answer questions about life's lessons that are more meaningful to me.
I did like Morrie and loved how he remained positive even to the end.

A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater; she lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds; she likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps; she has nothing left to lose. Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that can’t be made, and promises that won’t be kept.

    Story

I enjoyed listening to this story even though I didn't like what was happening in it. It starts with a perfect couple in a perfect relationship of 20 years. Then a mid-life crisis with a pregnant girlfriend more than 20 years younger. The style of the story is back and forth between the original couple; how she deals with the situation - maybe it will all go away with time. Then how the man sees the situation - lust doesn't make for a perfect relationship.
There are parts of the story that skip around and you wonder what is happening. I even came to the end of the story and wondered exactly what happened. Even though the story is typical, the method of telling it is very interesting although choppy. It is worth the time, though.

I downloaded this book thinking I would like it. When I started to listen I almost quit but something kept me listening. I tend to stay away from young adult books and I am not a romance novel person and that is what this book starts out to be. If you stick to it, after a while, maybe a couple of hours, the story changes dramatically. It moves from a light teen love story to an absorbing story. It includes the detail that will make you flinch, cry, throw things, and finally at peace. There is no fairytale ending but it does bring everything together in a very realistic way.

I so wanted this to be a fun listen. I kept hoping, through all three sections. It wasn't a good story, I didn't enjoy the characters, and I so wanted to call a counselor for the woman. From the signature on the napkin to the hospitalization, I knew it would never be good. I kept listening, though, and wondered if I would want to download the next two in the series. By the end of the book I didn't even have the desire to listen to the samples for the next two. The main character was gullible, tricked, drugged, kidnapped, beaten, restrained, secluded, starved, intimidated, enslaved, and broken. The story did not make me feel sorry for her, it did not make me want to save her, it did not make me feel anything other than anger. I have known women that have been abused and this story seems to describe that situation as something that is acceptable because she wants to love him and she wants him.
Don't read this to enjoy the story, you can't because it is not even enjoyable if you leave out the absurd.

The girl next door and her lifetime love! After a tragic teen love and pregnancy, this couple separate, grow up, find other loves, then come back together only to be torn apart again. The story was never gloomy, although it was sad and tough, there is a sparkle that kept me interested and involved. I loved the characters, the situations, how everything was described. The timing was perfect, the story kept me involved, and in the end, I left with a smile. That is what I want in a story even if it is uncomfortable.

Dellarobia Turnbow is a restless farm wife who gave up her own plans when she accidentally became pregnant at 17. Now, after a decade of domestic disharmony on a failing farm, she encounters a shocking sight: a silent, forested valley filled with what looks like a lake of fire. I waited a long time before I got this book. It looked interesting but without a little more detail, I should have known better. It took several starts but I finally got through it. I am not an environmentalist but I know there are some things that humans are responsible for messing up in this world. I don't like to read a book for enjoyment and find a lecture on how we are ruining the earth. Maybe it is true, maybe not, but don't expect me to enjoy a lecture when I am looking for an enjoyable story.
