The description makes this sound like a great book -- I'll have to pick up a hard copy. I usually listen to audio books in while driving. This one would make that dangerous. The narrator has so little enthusiasm or voice inflection I couldn't force myself past the 1 hr. mark. I downloaded Michael Connelly's Angel's Flight and I'm safe on the road again.

I wanted to like this book much more than I did. Living in the Twin Cities it's fun to hear places referenced that you know. The killer is an interesting one, but this early Lucas is an underdeveloped caricature, and at least in the 1st half the cops proceed on the bizarre assumption that a serial killer who rapes and kills women would be gay. Yes the book was written in the late 80's, but even for then it's strange. Narration was O.K.

Disappointing conclusion to a great series. A so so story, and poor Easy's become conflicted to the point of absurdity. I loved the other books and the narrator is great. If it wasn't a relatively short audio book I would have given in to my instinct to delete it part way through.

This book would be better were it actually funny, and all of the accents by the reader weren't variations on the same New York accent. I couldn't waste my time getting even half way through before sending it to the trash.

One of the best books I've listened to from audible. The chapters are more like short stories, but they tie together in a broad way. I'm not sure why some people don't like Robert Forster as a narrator, I think he's fantastic for this kind of material. Highly recommend.

Usually I'm careful to only choose the unabridged versions of audio books. There's nothing more frustrating than realizing halfway through a good listen that there would be so much more good stuff to listen to if only you'd bought the unabridged. This time the reverse is true. This is a really good book, but the unabridged really needs editing. There were seemingly endless sections with details unnecessary to getting the point across, particularly in chapters that described in mind numbing detail whom is related to whom in what way in particular polygamist communities. But overall, a very interesting account of the origin of the Mormon religion, and the mainstream vs. fundamentalist directions it's taken.

Bangkok's the original City of Angels preceeding LA by hundreds of years. It's also tops LA as a great setting for a mystery. Bankok 8's the best I've read with the exception of the Vincent Calvino series by Christopher G. Moore. B.D. Wong does a great job as a reader -- I only wish the version was unabridged.
