"Painful Waste of Time and Energy"
I read the reviews before I purchased this book. I decided to ignore the negative. What a big mistake! I tried so hard to finish this book. I have a strict rule about finishing one before I can start another. Had to break my rule this time. I have tried to give the author credit for staying true to the sad time in our American history that was the backdrop of this book. I can't do it! There was no reason for this book. I was disgusted by the stupid and pathetic women in this story. I would have rather her describe the lead character as retarded than to portray her as simply having no control over her situation. There is no way we (modern women) evolved from women that dumb. As I read I kept telling myself I HAD to finish it but it became harder and harder. Nothing good happens. Just when you think something good will happen things get worse. None of the characters ever learn ANYTHING. I never learned anything. Finally I searched reviews for a spoiler and when I learned enough about the ending to document any additional investment of my time as a complete waste I moved on. I've read a lot of good books that don't have happy endings and felt good about it. I feel stupid for ever purchasing this book when a couple of the reviews should have alerted me not to do so. I will agree with some reviews and say that I did get involved with the characters. I did want to find out what happens to them until I could tell it would never be anything good or anything that even makes sense. There were so many opportunities for the author to have taken things in a different direction. Why didn't she? The only thing I learned from this book, the 3/4 that I was able to get through, is to be much more careful in reading and understanding reviews in the future. Sad! Sad! Sad!
PS - The narrarators were great. I feel sorry that they had to get through the entire book!
"Entertaining AND Educational!"
I've always been interested in Evolution and have enjoyed fiction focusing on Neanderthals and our relationship with them way back when. I really debated whether or not to take a chance on these books (I'm half way thru the 2nd book, Humans, as I type) and I'm so glad I did. I love the actual science and feel like I'm learning so much. I love the characters too. Ponter and Mary are carrying the story so well. This idea of what could have happened or might still happen has me "thinking" so much about religion and politics and life in general. I love it when a book makes me think like this. Can't wait to finish Humans and then start on Hybrid. This author, Mr. Sawyer, must be one fascinating MIND.
Bottom line is... Go for it! Take a chance. Not many will regret the opportunity to think outside the box. It's really a treat to be so entertained while learning so much.

"Freaking AWESOME - as www's Kaitlin would say!"
I don't even know how to express my own personal "WONDER" in relation to my experience listening to these books. All three of them are fantastic. I want a WebMind! I want him for me and for "us". This author is a genius. The way his mind works is unimaginable to me. His messages, his politics, his humanity, his creativity, his complexity and his talent are beyond compare. The story is wonderful. I absolutely love the narrators on this book. Kaitlin’s narrator is sooooooooo talented! I have read Mr. Sawyer's Neanderthal Parallax (NP) series and Calculating God (CG). They are great stories also. I knew I'd like NP, and after I finished those three books, I was pretty sure I'd like CG but I wasn't sure at all I'd like the WWW series. I'm just not technically inclined and the topic as described was a little bit intimidating. BOY WAS I WRONG. It's just such a great story. I hope the Chinese government reads it.
Now, my hardest decision is which one of Robert Sawyer's books to download next. :-)
PS - I think it is so smart for him to include references to Audible in WWW. What a great plug for a great service!

"Excellent story and very educational!"
My mom is in a nursing home. I was very surprised to feel I was learning about her from this story. It's beautiful. The characters are so well developed. I fell in love! I wanted to join the circus. I wanted to volunteer at mom's nursing home. I wanted to meet and get to know these people! I laughed. I cried. I rejoiced. I want a freaking elephant! Great, great, great book and a wonderful way to spend my time! I might read it again and I rarely do this!

"Can't wait to see the Movie!"
The story is wonderful. The reading however lacked animation and was a bit matter of fact. I can't wait to see what Steven Spielberg does with it. I know it is going to be a masterpiece!
"Read Before the Movie Comes Out in March 2012!"
I wouldn't have expected to like these books as much. My son recommended them to me. I did though. The story is great. The first book is the best like with most triology series but all three are worth the read. Can't wait to see the movie now.
