In a desperate bid to take back the continental United States - where hordes of undead now dominate the ravaged human population - a Navy commander leads a global mission to the heart of the pandemic. He changed his style from a journel of a single survivor to a typical format. He seemed to get out the cat in the hat Voom machine and sucked all the clutter away, just so he could get the series done.

The first two books were really good, but the last in the series was just OK.

America faces a full-scale socioeconomic collapse in the near future. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation cripples commerce and the mounting crisis passes the tipping point. Practically overnight, the fragile chains of supply and high-technology infrastructure fall, and wholesale rioting and looting grip every major city.

I read the series of books backward, because they were on sale in that order. They were all great books. Had strong Christian overtones, but really didn't diminish the story at all. This book makes you think about the direction of the country, and society. Enjoy.

America is in the thrall of a full-scale socioeconomic breakdown. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation destroys the value of the dollar, and the population, unprepared for hardship, panics. Practically overnight, the high technology infrastructure and chains of supply collapse and wholesale rioting and looting grip every city. Law enforcement, transportation, electricity, fuel, and medical supplies are all in the past now, as the country staggers beneath its own weight.

There are a lot of christian undertones in the novel, but you don't doubt the good men and women of faith. If you're a liberal, you'll probably hate it. If your a republican, you might not like it as you should. Federalists and libertarians, will love the book.

I'm "reading" the novels backward in order, and it doesn't seem to matter. It's a great series so far, can't wait to read the first book.

Spearpoint, the last human city, is an atmosphere-piercing spire of vast size. Clinging to its skin are the zones, a series of semi-autonomous city-states, each of which enjoys a different---and rigidly enforced---level of technology. Following an infiltration mission that went tragically wrong, Quillon has been living incognito, working as a pathologist in the district morgue.

Alastair Reynolds is a great author. He's got a clean, concise style to all the books I've read from him. You shouldn't believe in the universe of this novel, but you do. I hate that he's probably smarter than I will ever be.

The morning that the world ends, Katie is getting ready for court and housewife Jenni is taking care of her family. Less than two hours later, they are fleeing for their lives from a zombie horde. Thrown together by circumstance, Jenni and Katie become a powerful zombie-killing partnership, mowing down zombies as they rescue Jenni's stepson, Jason, from an infected campground.

The book begins when the zombies first take over. It's great to listen to, how people deal with the impossible of the dead rising. Some live some die. I like the the "thinking" humans actually improve their situation, instead of being in a constant state of running.

Good book, from a female's point of view.

In the years since the wave of living death swept the globe, St George and his fellow heroes haven't just kept Los Angeles' last humans alive - they’ve created a real community, a bustling town that's spreading beyond its original walls and swelling with new refugees. But now one of the heroes, perhaps the most powerful among them, seems to be losing his mind. The implacable enemy known as Legion has found terrifying new ways of using zombies as pawns in his attacks.

Another great book by Peter Clines. My version was screwed up with wrong voices for some of the characters, but you know, I enjoyed it anyway.

It went into more of a magical tone, and thought it would lose some of its hold on me, but it didn't. The series as a whole is a must buy.

Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.
