Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Bought this book for two friends before I even finished listening to my copy. Very compelling. One of the best books in my Audible library!

Named for a flower whose blood-red sap possesses the power both to heal and poison, Bloodroot is a stunning fiction debut about the legacies of magic and madness, faith and secrets, passion and loss that haunt one family across the generations, from the Great Depression to today. The novel is told in a kaleidoscope of seamlessly woven voices and centers around an incendiary romance that consumes everyone in its path.

    Martha Trupiano says: "Amazing story"
    "Six Fabulous Narrators!"
    Overall

This is the best book I have listened to since "The Help". I think both were enhanced by having multiple narrators. In the case of "Bloodroot", employing readers who could embrace the accent of the mountain people helped immeasurably. I loved this book and recommend it to all Audible readers.

Patty and Walter Berglund were the new pioneers of old St. Paul - the gentrifiers, the hands-on parents, the Whole Foods generation. Patty was the ideal sort of neighbor, who could tell you where to recycle your batteries and how to get the local cops to do their job. She was an enviably perfect mother and the wife of Walter's dreams. Together with Walter - environmental lawyer, commuter cyclist, total family man - she was doing her small part to build a better world.

    Lawrence says: "Believe the Hype"
"What is all the hoopla about?"
    Overall

I guess I must be missing something. This book has no likeable characters and appears to be a case of oral diarrhea by the author. The only reason I continue to listen to this book (18 hours!) is that it is the only new one on my
I-Pod. I keep listening to see if there are any redeeming qualities. So far, zilch.

Shamed by her infertility and by a secret from her youth, she has given up on happiness and surrendered to a bitter marriage. But then Timna, a young Israeli with enviable cleavage, becomes the shop seamstress. As the two serve the colorful customers of their Orthodox Jewish neighborhood, Sima finds herself awakened to adventure and romance.

I thought the story was interesting, but the narrator spoke in a breathy, low voice that was hard to hear. Sometimes the volume was uneven---straining to listen----then having it blasted out of the speakers! Disconcerting.

Around the time Elizabeth Gilbert turned 30, she went through an early-onslaught midlife crisis. She went through a divorce, a crushing depression, another failed love, and the eradication of everything she ever thought she was supposed to be. To recover from all this, Gilbert took a radical step. She got rid of her belongings, quit her job, and undertook a yearlong journey around the world, all alone. This is the absorbing chronicle of that year.

Loved that Liz Gilbert narrated her own book. She has such a wonderful voice. Although she is somewhat self-involved, I never tired of listening to her adventures on this book.
