I don't think I have read anything like it. I could compare it to reality tv, which what Mr Danza was actually doing with his students and writing about in this book.The series was called "Teach". I have not been able to find the series to watch. Comparing it on a reality tv basis, this was far better and real.

He came across as very ernest and his students meant the world to him.

I would consider the Great Gatsby as contemporary today as when it was written in the 1920's. I would loosely compare it to the book The Help. As in society not accepting outsiders, but the Great Gatsby story unfolds in the opposite manner--at first you think Gatsby is accepted by all, society all too gladly attended his weekend parties, invited or not-but abandoned him completely when he could not defend himself.

I was facinated by the book

I think I got it all the first time, the story revealed much about his life growing up as a 1st and 2nd generation contemporary Chinese family living and working in Florida. Loved all the food references. One of my favorite parts was when he was at a friends house and the mom served food that he described as gray and slimy and brought out his gag reflex. It was tuna and mac n cheese!

Due to life circumstances,Two women find they have to take control of their own path in life. As a result, they find out they are much happier than their life before when they were just trying to "fit in" to society and follow their men's lead.

I enjoyed all the parts really, it was a great journey.

This was my first read by the author.

Good solid contemporary relationship type novel

No, I but I recall parts of it in my head a lot, and laugh.

Same as what I like about all of Carl Hiaasen's works. He takes quirky to the extraordinary status as he brings down the greedy, powerful players that rule and have a hand in destroying South Florida. His characters are always over the top and outrageous. Always a good read!

Any scene with "The governor" in it!! And the druggie pop star's mother, the things she said and did! I'm sure that character came from real life. Never mind the bodyguard with the mini saw on his stubbed arm! Or the tabloid photographer who baited the waters with chum tied to cinder block waiting for that perfect shot of a shark and a swimmer!!

There was nothing new in this story, just a rehash of formula romance. In a word, boring!

Something more contempory, like from THIS century. I'm liking Elin Hilderbrand lately.

Narrator was fine, likeable.

Oh geez, maybe the part where the heroine plays a mega successful morning show replica of Martha Stewart and she does not cook or do crafts? Plus she runs a magazine of the same? I remember Diann Cannon doing the same in a movie from the '70's.

The heroine was supposed to be a top notch hotel concierge, but made amateur mistakes as hostess at the restaurant, that was irritating. Like taking a reservation without getting a phone number/name. Plus, of all the Elin Hildebrand books I have listened to, this one was my least favorite, it went on too long!

The behind the scenes aspect of a well heeled bustling restaurant was fascinating, plus the story of the the dual owners relationship. The restaurant staff characters were really well drawn. Many of the items on the restaurants menu I have found locally at real restaurants, such as lamb lollipops and steak frites... I wonder if the chef read the book!

Aside from being much too long and doubting the validity of the hostess's competence, it was a good read. Can't miss one in a series!!

If you want explicit sex narrations, maybe.

Not run over the path the characters follow to get to the sex scenes. The path IS the enjoyable part for the readers.

Do you ever get the inclination to clean, which, when done, makes you aware of other things that also need the boot? The more the heroine cleaned, the more she saw things that were wrong in her home and life, including an insufferable husband. Go Lou!

I really liked this story, and I don't know anything about hockey. Neither does the heroine, but her sheer determination to keep her job is funny, as is the insight into celebrity assistant work and the inner realm of the players of pro hockey.

Good one, you will like it!
