In a city that runs on a dwindling supply of magic, a young boy is drawn into a life of wizardry and adventure. Conn should have dropped dead the day he picked Nevery's pocket and touched the wizard's locus magicalicus, a stone used to focus magic and work spells. But for some reason he did not. Nevery finds that interesting, and he takes Conn as his apprentice on the provision that the boy find a locus stone of his own.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Where does 14 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    A definite favourite

What did you like best about this story?

Likeable characters, mystery drip-fed in exciting and tantilising tastes... there wasn't anything I didn't like about this story!

What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It took me an awkward 5 minutes to get used to the narrator - his narration felt jerky at first. By minute 6 I was hooked! By minute 7 I couldn't have heard this story or any of the voices read by anyone else. Ray, you rocked this.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I'm supposed to have been at work 2 hours ago... help. I can't stop listening
