This was my first experience with the Highlander Series and with Karen Marie Moning.
The author is a good story teller, but was shocked by the detail in the love scenes. Makes me nervous to find out what books are listed in the "Erotica & Sexuality" section... Certainly should be listed under the romance genre... Despite the R rated scenes, I still enjoyed the love story and even downloaded the next in the series, which I would give the same review to.
The reader did an okay job. I agree with other reviewers that his interpretation of female voices is extremely terrible and can be distracting, however he does a great job on the narration and the male voices. Once past the first hour, I got used to it and it didn't bother me much.
I would recommend to my girlfriends as a great steamy escape, however would never admit to reading these books to any of my guy friends in a million years. I'd probably listen to it again in the far future...
Being of Generation X, I loved this book and really connected with the characters and story. I loved revisiting the nostalgia from my youth and loved the twists and turns, some of them really surprising me. I also lived in Austin for 5 years, so love that the author is a fellow Austin-ite. I have highly recommended this book to all my friends and they have all loved it just as much as I did. Great, fun use of time.
Maybe Ender's Game because it is a futuristic book with a great story and I think it'll gain a good following. I only wish it was a series because I didn't want it to end...
I probably should've written this review right after I read this book, but I'll do my best.
I thought this book was a great story and had great character development. I thought the pace was well set and thought the story, although borrowed from other books, was imaginative and entertaining. I was disappointed by the end. I thought it could've been better and was disappointed the way it left off, but I would still recommend it.
I thought the narrator did a great job. He was not distracting in the least in my opinion and I can't remember anything negative to report. I didn't think he was amazing, but also not distracting which is the most important thing!!
Over all, I thought it was pretty good... Not amazing, not terrible, just pretty good...
I had a free $10 credit from Audible, so it's probably my fault that I didn't do much research when picking a random book to download...
This novella/short story had no depth and was just a lame erotic flop from the first chapter. I thought the idea of shape-shifters had some real potential, but it was wasted on steamy love scenes and sexual tension through out.
I was disappointed and annoyed. I would never read anything by this author again. I think I would throw up or laugh myself silly... What a joke...
The narrator, Allison Kruise, has a nice voice and I enjoyed her narration very much. I thought she did a great job and hope she narrates some better books in the future!
I am a huge fan of Orson Scott Card, and have passed this book to many of my friends, so I was excited to find it was released on audible.
Card is an amazing story teller and I love how they read like a movie and there is no unnecessary descriptions. He has an amazing imagination and I have read everything of his that I could get my hands on in the past 10 years.
This book in particular is one of my favorites because I enjoyed learning about each community and wondered what the next unique developed talent would be!
The reader, Stefan Rudnicki, sometimes annoys me because his voice is so deep that the resonance literally hurts my ears. He narrates most of Card's books, so I have had to just deal with it and I didn't think it was so bad in this book. In fact, I thought he did probably his best job with this book so far.
I couldn't figure out which cameo was Card because I have only listed to it once... Next time I will definitely listen closer to try to pick him out!! If anyone figures out which character he is, do tell!
Lastly, I just love Card's support of audio books and enjoy listening to his background on the books. I am always left wanting to know more about him and how he thinks. He is a true artist!! If I was more of a writer myself I would take one of his writing classes to uncover how he does it!!
Love this book and highly recommend it along with Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, and Song Master.
