  • A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future

Lawyers. Accountants. Software Engineers. That what Mom and Dad encouraged us to become. They were wrong. Gone is the age of "left-brain" dominance. The future belongs to a different kind of person with a different kind of mind: designers, inventors, teachers, storytellers - creative and emphatic "right-brain" thinkers whose abilities mark the fault line between who gets ahead and who doesn't.

    "A Whole New Life"
    Overall

Once in a while a book comes along, which sweeps away established and conventional wisdom and opens up our minds to a completely new perspective on an existing idea. Daniel Pink's A Whole New Mind can rightfully claim its place in the pantheon of such ground-breaking titles.

It is a must-read for all who want to identify their true potential and maybe even their true calling.

It opens our eyes to the stunning fact that the tools to succeed in the flat world are right there with us ... all we have to do is start to use them as they're meant to be used.

The presentation is simple but the impact is great; in fact the thing I liked most about the book is its ability to convey a very powerful idea in a very simplistic manner.

A Whole New Mind is, in the truest sense of the word, enlightening. I'm convinced that assimilating the book's ideas would definitely help people lead a much more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Something terrible has happened in the snowbound village of Kingdom Come, Wyoming, where 12 eerily identical houses stand dark and abandoned. Meals remain untouched on dining room tables, cars are still in garages, and the town's residents have vanished into thin air. This is the disturbing setting where vacationing medical examiner Maura Isles and her traveling companions find themselves trapped during a ferocious snowstorm.

This was my first Rizzoli & Isles title and was I blown away!

Superb storyline, descriptions so vivid you get immersed in the plot's environs in no time and totally unpredictable!

Not for a moment did the narrative lose its momentum or its allure.

The narration is excellent as well, yet another factor that made the scenic descriptions come alive and haunt you.

Seventeen-year-old Haley McWaid is the pride of her family and about to embark on a promising college education. Wendy Tynes is a reporter on a mission, to identify and bring down sexual predators via elaborate sting operations. Dan Mercer is a social worker and friend to troubled teens, but his story soon becomes more complicated than Wendy could have imagined....

    Overall

    Harlan Coben does it again!
Only he can combine, so seamlessly, the play of human emotions with the elements of mystery ... as one sees in "Caught".

Also notable - more than once, in the course of the book, does Coben present us with moral dilemmas that walk the thin line between accepted moral behaviour and what might be termed as a criminal psyche. The outcomes are far from obvious, quite disturbing at times ... but chillingly believable and discomforting.

The third most striking aspect of this work is that pace is never sacrificed for detailing yet one gets all the answers in the end. Listeners do not end up making assumptions and all questions are addressed ... but there is no information overkill.

All in all ... "Caught" is an outstanding listen!

Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

    "A Heart-Wrenching Tale"
    Overall

More than once while listening to this book, I could not help but crying. More than once I felt I couldn't listen any more ... it was too real, too hard-hitting. Bill Forstchen's work ... work of fiction, yes ... but probably much more powerful than many true-life accounts ... and the outstanding rendition by Joe Barrett ... is a truly moving tale of keeping hope alive in the darkest hour of despair, of the triumph of human will over forces of destruction - both in the external world and more in the complex labyrinths of the mind.
One Second After is a true classic.
