"Not bad, not great"
After listening to a really long book, I wanted a short interesting book, and generally this book filled the bill. The best thing about the book is that the author brings to life a lot of well-known historical characters like Julius Ceasar, Cleopatra, Mark Antony, Cicero, and Brutus. However, the plot itself is not all that interesting and the "mystery" is not that hard to figure out. If you're really looking for a good Roman historical novel look to something like Colleen McCullough, but if you want a quick and light historical fiction, this book should fill the bill.
"Enjoying the series, and this one keeps on rolling"
Book 3 follows well from books 1 and 2, and I'm enjoying most of the different plot lines. I will say that Luke and Ben Skywalker's adventure in the Maw was a little difficult to follow via the audio version, but it basically makes sense.
"Fairly decent historical novel"
I enjoyed this one (the second book) more than the first book. The character of Caesar is more interesting and the politics of the Senate are well described. Parts of the plot seem too simplistic though.
"An interesting story and good set up for future"
It has been a long time since I read Start Wars books, but I was looking for a relatively simple and short story with a lot of action, and this did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the the voices (pretty close to the voices in the movies) and the background music and sound effects were pretty cool. I enjoyed Han's irony, Luke's calmness, and Lando's smoothness.
Perhaps one of the best things about this book is that it makes you want to read the next book.
"Nice and short"
Pretty good story and I enjoyed the narration although somewhat predictable, especially if you are familiar with other books by Baroness Orczy.
"Solid ending"
Had some slow moments, but overall very good. A satisfying ending. Katnis' mood swings were getting a little annoying, and I think those mood swings are exaggerated by listening to it because the book is written in first person.
"Great story to listen to"
I got interested in this because of the movie, and I still found the story suspenseful even though I saw the movie. This a great book to listen to because the plot moves along quickly and the story as told through the eyes of the heorine really draws you to the characters. I thought the narrator did an excellent job as the voice of Katniss
"Hated the beginning, liked the end"
I really found the beginning very boring. As the story moves along, it becomes more interesting but remains a fairly simple plot and seems to end abruptly. Plus, I didn't think the writing was that interesting. The author has the characters talk in Shakespearean English, which comes across as stilted in the audio version. The story's major plus is its different (and maybe more realistic) take on the traditional Robin Hood stories.
"Eh..."
Sorry to all the Jane Eyre fans out there, but I just thought this book was just OK. The ending was kind of nice, but I never really felt empathy for the character of Jane Eyre, and I got tired of her sentimentality. The book is very character driven, and I generally enjoy more plot-driven books.
The reading was done well and the narrator does a good job with the language. I do wonder whether reading the text of the book rather than listening to it helps the reader enjoy the language and the nuances more.
"First half kind of slow, then really picks up"
The first half primarily just has the characters traveling around, but then the action really picks up in the second half with a lot of surprises. I really like getting Jamie Lannister's point of view on the action and the history that he has been a part of.
"A little disappointed"
This was an okay story, but I was little disappointed with its simplistic plot. I'm not sure the characters really developed much during the story, and in many ways the ending was predictible. Although I liked the alternation between the male and female narrator, to reflect whose point of view was being described in the story, I thought the narration a little slow and too pronounced.
