After reading the other reviews of this book, I am compelled to submit my own. First, this is a very well crafted science fiction classic. It creates an entire future universe that is both plausible and fascinating. Second, the story and characters are well developed, intriguing and real. I highly recommend this book. I agree that the female narrator was initially irritating, but once her story begins, becomes more interesting and you get lost in her tale. Be warned however, this only one-half of the book. For complete closure, you will need to read The Fall of Hyperion. Read back to back, this is a brilliant tale of the future with real and unique characters and storyline. This book is well deserving of both the Hugo Award and Locus Award for Best Novel of 1990.

I actually read reviews prior to purchasing a book and knew, before I purchased it, that it was an installment. So knowing that, I approached the book knowing that there wouldn't be a a final resolution. That being said, I thought this was a wonderful read, I really like the characters. It is a very exciting, fast moving read with excellent narration. I was a little frustrated at first, feeling that the back and forth between Agent Pendergast and Judson Esterhazy a little silly, but the story solidified rapidly from there. I highly and recommend and enjoyed this book.

This was a great end to a great series. Hopefully, we will get to see these characters again. Exceptionally well read (again) by Christopher Lane and well written (again) by Dean Koontz. If you haven't read all the other installments in the series you will probably be lost. I just finished rereading Book 4, so moving to Book 5 was really enjoyable since the final book is simply a continuation of the 4th. I highly recommend this book and the entire series. It contains great characters that grow with the books and also presents a very unique Frankenstein concept.

I must have a read a completely different book from most of the reviewers. Although this is a relatively well crafted book, the story is so riddled with unrealistic and repeated scenarios, shallow characters, and simplistic saccharine solutions to complex issues that it was genuinely hard to finish. Characters were shallow and most were totally uninteresting. I thought it odd that by the end of the book, I knew a lot about the main characters, but did not actually know them as people. On the plus side, I did find the history notes quite interesting.

I must have a read a completely different book from most of the reviewers. This book was boring, boring, shallow, prosaic, full of stereotypes and ultimately unrealistic. I have liked the narrator with other books, but he was totally inappropriate for this type of novel. Every character sounded the same and most sounded like crotchety old men. I found the plot confusing and hard to follow. The author was unable to generate any empathy (or sympathy) for any of the characters. The ending was totally predictable and quite unsatisfying. This was my first, and last, Vince Flynn book

Stephen King excels at the art of writing the short story and novella and this book does not disappoint. These stories are well crafted, creepy, disturbing and entertaining. In other words, typical King. This book is very well narrated as well. I highly recommend.

First of all, I agree with the abolition of the death penalty so the politics of the book not only did not bother me but actually bolstered my beliefs. The story is very well crafted and although there are quite a few stereotypical characters, those characters accurately reflect the culture of that region. I grew up in East Texas and, trust me, the attitudes and prejudices of the people are real. The book did seem to go on when it could have ended, but overall, I was thoroughly entertained and at times, touched.

Another great book written by Michael Connelly, and superbly read by Peter Giles. Great plot, great characters. A great read that I highly recommend.

Although this book was well researched and had a fascinating premise, it never totally came together for me. The meteorite story really did not unfold until the end and the story had a tendency to go on and on and on. Like some readers, I am really tired of Scott Brick’s tedious style and actually try to avoid his books.

I agree that a sequel would be well received, but it has been nine years since this book was first published so I am not that hopeful

OK, I knew from previous reviews that this was just the first installment, but I downloaded it anyway... It may be half a book, but its a GOOD half of a book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward, in anticipation, for the next installment in this series. I think that this is possibly the best of the series...great character development, interesting plot. You may want to wait for the next installment before downloading this one, but you wont be disappointed in this one. I certainly wasn't.

This is probably one of the most well written and articulate trilogies I have ever read. Great, gripping plot, fascinating characters and excellent narration by Simon Vance. I will miss both Lisbeth and Mikael. I already miss the future works of Stieg Larrsson.
