When a dying boy is pulled from the river with a mark crudely tattooed on his shoulder, hangman Jakob Kuisl is called upon to investigate whether witchcraft is at play in his small Bavarian town. When more children disappear and an orphan is found dead with the same mark, the mounting hysteria threatens to erupt. Before the unrest forces him to torture and execute the woman who aided in the birth of his children, Jakob must unravel the truth.

    Story

The story constantly kept me engaged. At several points, I thought I knew what would happen but I was completely wrong. I found this to be a very enjoyable listen. The narrator helped give the story life. He was excellent.I enjoyed hearing the names pronounced. I am not proficient in Polish pronunciation so it was extremely helpful! If you have listened to many books, you know the narrator can make or break the experience.

Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

    Story
What did you love best about Fall of Giants?

I love the story. Ken Follett does a great job of connecting the characters in ways you would not immediately assume. The story has a lot of characters but it is necessary in a book of this length.

What about John Lee’s performance did you like?

I love how he changes his voice for different characters. It makes the book more interesting to listen too.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, the book is much to lengthy to listen to in one sitting. Personally, I like that. It is great for runners or for a long car ride!
