I am someone who enjoys audible books very much now that they exist. As a young student (real young) I can remember a teacher telling me how books can transport people to different places & open up a whole new world. This is how listening to audible books make me feel. Now if I can just stop falling asleep while listening to them at night I would be fine. Ha ha

Why do people dodge responsibility when things fall apart? Why the parade of public figures unable to own up when they screw up? Why the endless marital quarrels over who is right? Why can we see hypocrisy in others but not in ourselves? Are we all liars? Or do we really believe the stories we tell? Backed by years of research and delivered in lively, energetic prose, Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me) offers a fascinating explanation of self-deception.

Although this book reads like a pschological text book it is no less facsinating in scope. It explains the phenomena of justifying ones actions in such a way that will free up a person from wasting their time arguing with others & give a real insight into why this happens to just about everyone. Like pshycholigist know so well, much of what we do is based on learned information. Having this kind of insight can only be of the highest help in dealing with others & with ourselves too. Praise, praise, praise for the educational value this book gives.

It happens quietly one August morning. As dawn's shimmering light drenches the humid Iowa air, two families awaken to find their little girls have gone missing in the night. Now these families are tied by the question of what happened to their children. And the answer is trapped in the silence of unspoken family secrets.

Would you listen to The Weight of Silence again? Why?

No, becasue I rarely listen to books twice

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was easy to guess when given the choice

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

    It was pretty good

    Any additional comments?

I thought this book touched upon subjects that were difficult for people to hear, like domeatic violence, poor parenting, hidden insecurities, murder of children. And for these reasons made it less enjoyable for me.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Trespass to be better than the print version?

Yes, in fact I consider this book the BEST book I have ever listened too. When I read one of the reviews from someone who said they stayed up all night to listen to it I was quite skeptical, but I found I was listening to it late at night AND during the day. This book, in my opinion could have been at least three full books of thrilling mysteries. It was totally fascinating & had me dumbsruck with guessing what would come next which did keep coming like water over a waterfall - non stop. i think Indiana Jones paled in comparison.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Trespass?

I can't just pick one & if I were to list them all I would be giving away the book. And we do not want that now do we? All I can say us if other people want a wonderful, exciting expereince with an audible book....THIS IS IT.

What does Chris Macdonnell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His performance was masterful & indeed flawless. He surely made this audible book a wonderful experience. He went on top of the list of my favorite narrators. Which makes it hard to listen to other narrators who are less enjoyable..

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely, in fact I almost did. The author has my praise for writing such a magnificent book. It was so mesmerizing it gsve the word a new meaning.

    Any additional comments?

I jusr can't say enough good about this book. Thank you Scott Hunter!!!

What made the experience of listening to Nickel Plated the most enjoyable?

The fact that a very young man after going through much suffering himself could turn around & be everyone's hero & wiith great business savy too. He used the tools he found to his advantage which I found uniquely interesting. And he wasn't afraid to be alone .

What other book might you compare Nickel Plated to and why?

    Yes.

Have you listened to any of Nick Podehl’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Absolutely. Too many times the young people are given passes just becaue they are young & this author gives voice to another great choice;, & one that takes independence & courage. Similar to the Chris Gravenstein books.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Whe it becam apparent that Nickel knew just what he had to do so he could keep on doing good for others which was anonymity. A tough decision to make for any age..

Roberta Paxton had a pleasant, challenging job, a man who loved her, and a host of good friends, but anxiety gnawed at her, at the back of her mind, at the edge of her vision, something was threatening her... something or someone. She tried to talk about it, but nobody wanted to listen, not even her 13-year-old sister, Tobie. Roberta had had these premonitions before, Tobie reminded her. She was just being paranoid.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Maybe a decent story that made sense from beginning to end. Characters that blended together better than cottage cheese. A begining & end I could understand. Forget the attempt at a love story ending.....life just doens' t happen like that, Even the attempt at psychic involvement was poor, but what topped off all the worse was the monster with rage character. Man....hang it up..

What do you think your next listen will be?

I do not know but it won't be one by this author

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jennette Selig?

Narrator had nothing to do with bad book

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    NO

Atlanta, 1974: It's Kate Murphy's first day on the job, and the Atlanta Police Department is seething after the murder of an officer. Before the day has barely begun, she already suspects she's not cut out to be a cop. Her male uniform is too big, she can't handle a gun, and she's rapidly learning that the APD is hardly a place that welcomes women. Worse still, in the ensuing manhunt, she'll be partnered with Maggie Lawson, a cop with her own ax to grind (and a brother and uncle already on the force) - a strategy meant to isolate Kate and Maggie from the action.

It’s the middle of the night when Kathleen hears fighting coming from her neighbor Sheila’s apartment. As disturbing as that is, it’s the ominous sound of silence afterwards that keeps Kathleen from falling back to sleep. Slipping from bed with the intention of making sure everything is okay, Kathleen knocks on her friend’s door, only to find Sheila murdered, her naked body sprawled on sheets stained crimson with her blood. Shock and horror are followed by gritty determination when it becomes clear that Sheila’s death isn’t random and it isn’t the result of a jealous boyfriend.

Way too much explilcit sexual exlanations as book goes on. Should have been called a romance novel..

What could Tiffany Snow have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not start out leading sudience to think one way & then switch it around. Most of the main characters fell into this trap. first your a bad guy, then your not. First you are a plain Jane & then your not.

What three words best describe Angela Dawe’s voice?

    Up, down & sideways

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disapointment

What did you like best about Deadly Forecast? What did you like least?

I did not like how Abby kept the gloomy forecast going all through the book only to be wrong about it. Frankly it was a drag down for one of her books.

What was most disappointing about Victoria Laurie’s story?

    THe story line for sure

What aspect of Elizabeth Michaels’s performance would you have changed?

maybe getting happier would have helped but all I heard was her falling down, getting her boyfriend upset & her hips colllapsing on her.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?
