"Entertaining"
Very entertaining and funny book, and almost impossible to put down.
"Really stupid people, very unbelievable"
If you're going to read, wait for the abridged version. This was really, really, really long!
I almost didn't finish the book; actually stopped listening for several days.
Several of the key people in this book were really very stupid. It was hard to read many parts because of that. This book had a lot going for it, actually very intriguing about unknown entities and what they could do to us, as humans. I really liked that part. However, it could have been portrayed much better. I was pretty frustrated after reading the book, and should have listened to the other reviews and not wasted my time.
"If you like sappy main characters, read the book"
Let me say up-front, that I really don't care for stories where the heroine can't be happy unless she's married with kids. The first chapter sets the stage where she's desperate enough to spend $30k to hire a matchmaker. I can foresee where there could be a lot of humor with this book. However, I'll gladly pass.
"I'll pass"
While the idea is very interesting, the details of just the first chapter were eye-crossing. The author kept going on and on about his argument and why he was writing the book. If an abridged version comes out, I might listen.
"Sounds very promising"
I intend to purchase when it's available. Gets your attention almost immediately.
"Wait for the abridged version."
And save yourself a lot of frustration. The book overall has a lot of potential. However, it's so long I skipped chapters (and it was still too long) and the plot was so obvious you wanted to slap the characters! Also, do NOT let children listen; older teens would be ok. Doubt if I read the sequel as I already know how things will end up.
"Very choppy"
Listened to the first chapter and have no desire to read the rest of the book. Boring!
"Intriguing but nothing like the write-up"
I listened to the first chapter and was definitely "caught". However, when I went to purchase the book, the write-up appears to be a completely different book. What happened? They both started in 1980, but the listen talked about a 12 year old girl dealing with her Mother's impending death and an ensuing mystery.
"Too much information"
Within the first chapter, you learn all about her very healthy lifestyle (no caffein, limited sodas, etc), which is directly related to her Mother's recent death (died of breast cancer, potentially related to sodas, etc.). Wwaaaaaayyy too much detail! About half way through the chapter, I put my iPod playback on fast, but it wasn't fast enough.
"Very good, but similar to other books"
Although I liked Who Moved My Cheese better. Worth reading as a refresher to keep yourself open to new ideas and to keep your skills flexible.
"Slow on the upstart but very interesting"
I'm going to purchase and read the rest. Think this will be interesting to understand my own purchasing process.
