McCullough's John Adams has the sweep and vitality of a great novel. This is history on a grand scale, an audiobook about politics, war, and social issues, but also about human nature, love, religious faith, virtue, ambition, friendship, and betrayal, and the far-reaching consequences of noble ideas. Above all, it is an enthralling, often surprising story of one of the most important and fascinating Americans who ever lived.

Would you try another book from David McCullough and/or Nelson Runger?

I really like David McCullough and I expected this to be an historical work, but it just seemed to go on and on with too many details. Took me weeks to get through it.

If you’ve listened to books by David McCullough before, how does this one compare?

I would have enjoyed it much more if were read by the author. (e.g. 1776)

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration only added to the slow movement of the book. The narrator paused frequently and made annoying noises that were distracting.

Could you see John Adams being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    It already has.

    Any additional comments?

I love books about history but this one was not a favorite. I doubt I would try to get through it ever again.

It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable. Yet Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's 60 years old.

This book is squeaky clean and delightful. The whole series is wonderful. I have read these books multiple times and each time find new things to love. The recording makes it really come to life. Mitford is the town I escape to when things get crazy.

Like every other hobbit, Bilbo Baggins likes nothing better than a quiet evening in his snug hole in the ground, dining on a sumptuous dinner in front of a fire. But when a wandering wizard captivates him with tales of the unknown, Bilbo becomes restless. Soon he joins the wizard’s band of homeless dwarves in search of giant spiders, savage wolves, and other dangers. Bilbo quickly tires of the quest for adventure and longs for the security of his familiar home. But before he can return to his life of comfort, he must face the greatest threat of all.

Would you try another book from J. R. R. Tolkien and/or Rob Inglis?

    Nope.

What was most disappointing about J. R. R. Tolkien’s story?

I read this when I was young and was bored with it. The performance helped me get through it again but I was still bored. I know a lot of people love these stories - so I tried to like it, really I did.

Have you listened to any of Rob Inglis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The performance of all the characters was really quite remarkable. My only complaint would be the annoying little stops and starts in the recording.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I tried. Didn't like that either.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Gaiman’s not just an award-winning author, but a narrator who earns rave reviews – and fields requests from other authors to perform their books, too! Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead....

Would you try another book from Neil Gaiman and/or Neil Gaiman?

I would probably listen to another book by this author.

What does Neil Gaiman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love books that are read by the author because you get the true feeling the author meant to put behind the words.

    Any additional comments?

This was an enjoyable read but not really inline with my belief of the afterlife. Fantasy but pretty clean, moderately scary, and quite entertaining.

More than a million listeners have thrilled to Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln, the can't-stop-listening work of nonfiction about the shocking assassination that changed the course of American history. Now the anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts in gripping detail the brutal murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy—and how a sequence of gunshots on a Dallas afternoon not only killed a beloved president but also sent the nation into the cataclysmic division of the Vietnam War and its culture-changing aftermath.

Sort of a tell-around-the-campfire story. I've also listened to Graveyard and thought it was interesting, although not a classic. I would probably buy another book from this author.
