This magnificent novel by one of America's finest writers is the epic of one man's remarkable journey, set in 19th-century America against the background of a vanishing people and a rich way of life. At the age of 12, under the Wind Moon, Will is given a horse, a key, and a map, and sent alone into the Indian Nation to run a trading post as a bound boy. It is during this time that he grows into a man, learning, as he does, of the raw power it takes to create a life, to find a home.

    P. Bergh says: "A fascinating, great epic tale"
    "Evocative and Transporting"
    Overall

I am amazed at some of the previous reviews. To say that this story is anything other than transending is incredible to me. The story needs to be sipped and listened to without relation to time. I sometimes believe that we are all to caught up with the fast pace of life and we cannot appreciate the beauty of such an elegant and evocative story. The prose is haunting and the characters become part of your imagination in a nearly holographic way. Mr. Frazier allows you to be transported to another time and reality- a reality where you see the characters in your mind and believe in their realness. If you allow yourself to be ensconced in a wonderful story, and have the ability to drone out our all too hurried world, then you are ready to enjoy a remarkable journey when listening to Thirteen Moons!

In 1894 Carrie McGavock is an old woman who has only her former slave to keep her company...and the almost 1,500 soldiers buried in her backyard. Years before, rather than let someone plow over the field where these young men had been buried, Carrie dug them up and reburied them in her own personal cemetery. Now, as she walks the rows of the dead, an old soldier appears. It is the man she met on the day of the battle that changed everything.

    Joyce says: "Best Yet"
    "Subtle with a kick"
    Overall

Unlike more recent reviews, I was moved by the color and personality of the characters. You could nearly smell and touch the history depicted. Not so much a breakdown of the technical aspects of battle, but a moving account of the personal and national wounding of people and a country. One of the best books I have heard or read.
