Tangoo

I am a great fan of Terry Pratchett and would not know how many of his books I have read. More that a dozen easily and I have enjoyed them all. This book was no different. It was a great read with some of the classic old characters making a reappearance (It is the seventh Rincewind novel).

Unfortunately it was my first Terry Pratchett audio book and as much as I enjoyed the story I did not enjoy this format. The full story revolves around several parallel sub-stories and flips back and forth between them. On paper this is fine as normally an * or extra line spacing or something is marked between switching from one story to the next. In this book there wasn't any form of sub-story switching markers so on many times I found myself confused when from one sentence to the next the story had switch from one sub-story to the next. Many other audio books use some sort of 3 second music, chime or section title when doing this. That is they adapt the written novel a little for an audio audience. In this story this is not done it simply is someone sitting reading you the paperback.

I just found this continuously frustrating. Everything else was fine - Narration was great by Stephen Briggs and the style of Pratchett's humor never disappoints e.g.

I liked this book, and I really enjoyed listening to it but I have to say that in the end I didn't finish it.

All I can think of is that in the end I enjoyed his books (I read 5 of them) much more than I enjoyed this biography.

If you are really into the topic of Mark Twain then this is probably the book for you but to me it was not as entertaining as reading his novels.

Who knows, perhaps I will come back to it another time and finish it off - I did get 75% or so of the way through it.
