Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon at a mission hospital in Addis Ababa. Orphaned by their mother's death in childbirth and their father's disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution. Yet it will be love, not politics - their passion for the same woman - that will tear them apart.

I enjoyed this book overall. The characters develop nicely, as does the story, but it is full of medical jargon that will appeal only to those in the field.

The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them all they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil.

I love a story that can take my breath away like this one did. The details, history and emotion this story encompasses are well presented within the book. I will definitely read another Kingsolver novel.

Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever. Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she works at home designing sophisticated security systems.

    Story
Would you try another book from Nora Roberts and/or Julia Whelan?

This is the first Nora Roberts book I've read/heard, and judging by this one, it's the last. The narration was pretty good, but the story is light on substance.

Would you ever listen to anything by Nora Roberts again?

    probably not.

Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan – was your favorite?

    Elizabeth

Was The Witness worth the listening time?

    No

    Any additional comments?

If you read "Girl With a Dragon Tattoo" you'll recognize this story line, but this story doesn't hold up in the action and intrigue arena. It's pretty predictable.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.
