"Thank God It's Over Muchacho!"
Unfortunately, I purchased AND listened to the entire book. I really can't believe all the great reviews this received.
Half of the book was quotes from various people and personalities, a quarter was horrible cliches, and the other quarter was Wireman calling Edgar "Muchacho". I swear, that word...Muchacho...makes you want to pull your hair out when you've heard it several hundred times.
Don't waste your money or credits on this one.
"Political/Religious Disagreements I STILL Loved It"
I saw several reviews who said they couldn't stand the narration of Owen Meany. I thought it perfect based on the physical description of Owen Meany and his personality. In fact, I thought the entire narration was outstanding.
After listening to the book, I was most surprised I hadn't seen comments about politics or religion in the reviews.
The author starts bashing the United States pretty early in the book and doesn't stop and has a lot of negative things to say about Catholics. I'm not Catholic, but I kept thinking that if I were, I would be getting pretty irritated.
All the negatives about the United States did really irritate me and yet I still loved this book.
There's a real teaser in the book about the Catholic church committing an "unspeakable outrage" to Owen and his family that leaves you wanting to know what it could be. If you read the book "The Help" it has a teaser with Minnie and the "terrible awful" that's mentioned just enough times to leave you constantly wondering what it could be.
If you can put aside your personal feelings on the political and religious, it's a wonderful story. I loved Owen Meany and his simple, straight-forward, and literal thinking. There was something about all the main characters to fall in love with. I found myself laughing out loud at times and on the verge of tears at others. I wished the story could have gone on much longer. I miss Owen Meany's voice.
"Can't I Leave A Zero Star Rating??"
If I could leave zero stars I would. The only thing I can say is this is a male's version of a Danielle Steele novel. I can't believe I listened to the entire book. Please don't waste your time as I have.
