"Well written."
I loved this book. Ms. Rubin shares her personal story regarding her assignment with Shape magazine. She is a journalist that struggled with extra pounds for many years. Her years at Shape chronicled her successes and challenges at losing weight, exercise, struggling with regain, and the myriad of emotions and mental health issues that every overweight person struggles with. Ms. Rubin is very intelligent and writes well. I was engrossed. (I listened on my iPod while walking in the neighborhood.) I don't think she came off as whiny or blaming at all. Although, I am perplexed at every person that feels "deprived" and pouts when they can't eat what they want. The real deprivation is not living the life you want. Anyway, I think she figured that one out. I loved this one. I have listened to many personal weight loss books (A.J. Rochester, Valerie Frankel, Tales From The Scale, etc.) and this was by far the best and most enjoyable. I wish Ms. Rubin much happiness and peace with her body.
"Beautiful book"
I agree that the audio quality is not the best but it does get better, or perhaps more tolerable, after several minutes. This book is so wonderful, you won't notice the less than stellar audio. This book is warm. It is comforting. It is filled with common sense, love, and wisdom. I suggest every parent or future parent, or spouse, listen to this book. I am so glad I found it. My children are 5 and 8 and this book only reinforces the importance of connection and closeness with family and your community. It reminds us that material goods, media and the popular culture do not lead to happiness and love. Appreciating what we have does. I loved this audio version so much that I ordered the paperback to read again and again.
"Loved this book"
Pamela Peeke is a great narrator. The quality of the audio is excellent. The content is great. Peeke breaks down, in simple steps, what it takes to be fit to live. Sure, there is some stuff we have heard before, but it's good to be reminded. Peeke is very motivating and the content of this book is a wake-up call. It's nice to have a doctor remind you that it's not OK to sit around and eat junk. We must move and eat well for our health, or survival, and our happiness. This is a great book to listen to walking or exercising. Loved it.
