The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

What did you like best about Beautiful Ruins? What did you like least?

I don't think I liked anything about this book unless it was the narrator. I wanted to like it and I even read the reviews from some that raved about it. I didn't get it. I couldn't even finish it.

The honeymoon is over, now the murders can begin. America's #1 thriller writer returns with his sexiest, scariest novel ever. Hotter than The Beach House and scarier than Kiss the Girls, James Patterson's explosive new thriller introduces a bride who is beautiful, talented, devoted, and deadly.

Is it possible to write a sidesplitting novel about the breakup of the perfect marriage? If the writer is Nora Ephron, the answer is a resounding yes. For in this inspired confection of adultery, revenge, group therapy, and pot roast, the creator of Sleepless in Seattle reminds us that comedy depends on anguish as surely as a proper gravy depends on flour and butter.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I really didn't enjoy this book. There were parts that were comical but not enough in my opinion. I think some of the comedy would have been funnier if I had understood some of the Jewish customs. Meryl Streep did an amazing job. I really had to make myself finish the book.

Patterson's latest is "a slick, vastly enjoyable thriller." Jack Mullen's relentless crusade to discover the truth behind his younger brother's death puts him into a head-on collision with one of the most powerful and ruthless men in New York. As it unfolds that his brother was involved with some of the richest women and men in America - in ways Jack never imagined - his dream of justice fades. Only if he can somehow beat the rich at their own game will he be able to avenge his brother.

What made the experience of listening to The Beach House the most enjoyable?

I really enjoyed the twist in this book. At times it was a little graphic and there were things I didn't really want to hear (subject matter) but all in all it was a good book.
