"Interesting & Specific"
I loved the way that the author takes a snapshot of 1861, giving you not only the history, but the mood and tone of this tumultuous year.
Well, I think most people know how 1861 ends... or begins.
It is read very well, and dramatically.
No, its way too long for one sitting. You would be worn out if you did.
For the serious historian, this is not really eye opening. But the very specific and unique stories told are interesting. I was most interested in the James Garfield piece. It made me want to read up on this guy. It seemed like an out of place story, but it was great anyway.
"Eye opening and interesting"
I never read the print version.
By going back and forth between the history of the Mormon faith and the murder, you get a true understanding of the events.
The last stand of Joseph Smith.
I was moved by the coldness by which the murders were committed. Blind faith is scary.
Beautifully read.
"Really good"
I have so much respect for this man after having read (listened to) this book. When anyone works as hard as he did, you have to admire them. This is not a guy who fell into his career, he is someone who worked and worked to get to where he is. And, he reads it which is very entertaining. I highly recommend this book.
"I cant believe it was THIS dull"
I love Tracy Morgan. I find him to be REALLY funny and I have been a fan of his for a while. Which is why I was so disappointed with this book. Its really boring and not funny. It more like an acceptance speech than a book. He keeps thanking all of the people in his life that he admires. Over and Over again.
I would have loved to hear more stories, especially how he became a comedian...
I actually couldnt wait for it to end.
"VERY INTERESTING"
I found this book VERY interesting. Not your typical bio of a person who had a rough life and fought his way through trouble, etc... But a story about a regular guy, with irregular talent who found motivation in his pride. How hard this man worked his entire life, is more than inspiring.
But, this book is for REAL baseball fans. If not, you may get bored at times. If you love the game, and its players, its worth reading about, maybe the best pitcher to throw a ball.
