This was read beautifully, and the story was fascinating. So much history about the area, and how drugs were used as commerce. But I don't know what happened to the ending. It just left me feeling like there is another book somewhere to explain what happens next. I was so disappointed I felt I just had to write about this. Ending ruined it for me.
I can only compare to the rest of the Jane Yellowrock series, and as usual it is a stand out short story. Well worth the price, and I got on sale.
A surprise for Jane, Nell is a really strange woman with powers, that she really doesn't want anyone to know about. (because for years she was tortured because of them and had to hide them) To Nell anything super natural is evil so she believes she is (at least this is what I get from her interactions with Jane)
I've listened to her in all of the "Yellowrock" series and in other audiobooks as well, she is a natural for narrations.
Don't let anyone know who you really are.
I hope that Faith Hunter finds a way to put Nell in future stories of Jane. I think bringing her out to accept who she is and give her faith in her powers could be a very interesting add on to a story. This was well worth the price for the story line even though the ending kind of left you hanging about Nell.
Wilbur Smith doesn't pull punches. This series takes place thousands of years ago, when the powerful ruled with iron hand and the rest of humanity was fodder. There is much horror and cruelty. Some of it is gut churning but in all honesty the world was not an easy place to live in 5500-6000 years ago. Most people didn't live to be adults.
The plot was always thickening, Taita, a eunuch slave in the first book in the series, now has the power of being the right had of the Pharaoh.
There have been several different narrators in this series, and they have all been very good. Mike Grady also did an excellent job with emotions and voices.
If only, but I did finish over the weekend.
Wilbur Smith writes intense violent, and sometime horrifying situations that can be very upsetting to the 21st century person. However if you think of how the world was during the Crusades, the Dark Ages, etc, you know for a fact that there is much inhumanity just to survive. The main Character is not without flaws, but who is?
This series takes place in a time where people were fodder and unless you were a powerful individual your life was in the hands of those who do have the power. Violence and brutality was something that happened regularly. Wilbur Smith doesn't cut corners on it. If you can't handle this kind of in your face horror, then don't listen to this series. Men, Women, children were all used in ways that would make the Holocaust look like camp. This is the way life was 6000 years ago.
Taita, a eunuch, in this series grows in each book. The stories and histories of Egypt that Wilbur Smith paints with his words are cruel, but memorizing. I've listened to this series more than once, and each book Taita grows into a stronger and more powerful, and influential person in Egypt.
Wilbur Smith knows history of Egypt, the culture and things that not so pleasant to those of us that live in the 21st century. There are horrors that occur to people, both male and female on a regular basis. (Much of it will be cringe worthy) however the fact that it's a historical novel and so well written with amazing characters. I just had to listen to over the years more than once.
Taita, the eunuch, who over the book grows in power and is trusted with much.
This is a series of books. For some reason book two is not available on Audible. but Warlock, Quest, and River God are. In each book Taita shows his nimble mind and grows in power in Egypt. Great series. Not all read by Dick Hill but all narrated great.
If Erotica is something you enjoy reading, yes I would recommend. It has just about every type of erotica, from hardcore kinky to really sweet. I enjoy it all so it was a nice mix for me.
This is an anthology so I can only compare to other anthologies. There are many good Erotica anthologies out there, this one really was excellent and I know I'll listen to again.
I never heard her before but she's wonderful at reading EROTICA. She has the power of expressing emotions and passion very well. I hope she'll be doing more like this. There are so many who narrate erotica who just don't do it for me. I'm glad I listen to the free sample so I learn the voices I enjoy.
So many enjoyable stories, it's hard for me to pick just one in this anthology. It was well worth the price.
If you enjoy various types of erotica, whether it involves BD/SM, Kink, or anything else you very well might enjoy this.
YES! the Narration was very well done, the story line kept moving and it kept you interested in all the characters. (even the really nasty ones)
The story line was about young people and how they take charge of their lives, and how they eventually take responsibility for their actions.
She was perfect for this series, with emotions and voices especially.
Looking forward to the last book in this trilogy. Knowing that there will be an end also makes it more enjoyable. Some authors don't know when to stop. I have a feeling book three will be totally worth the listen.
Never saw print version, audible with Rose Caraway doing narration was extremely well done. What I also enjoyed was that not all the "Submission" was women, there were men submitting as well. It was a nice mix of stories if this is a genre that you would enjoy.
This is an anthology of short stories, mixing both male and female submission. It's hard to compare to another book unless it's also an anthology of short stories in this genre.
She was delectable doing all the characters. Rose Caraway has a way with narrating EROTICA. I've listened to her narrate several Erotic pieces and they were all enjoyable to me.
Since there were 69 short stories, it was easy to stop and start at my leisure.Since I enjoy ALL TYPES OF EROTICA.......this was just one more I can enjoy again when I feel like a naughty listen.
This is not for everyone. Submission is consensual, and also part of many peoples fantasies. (Just because a person enjoys reading Murder mysteries, doesn't make them a Murderer) Same for Erotica, most sensual part of any person is their brain. If you enjoy Erotica, you may enjoy this as well.
I recommend the entire series to start with. One of the best written and narrated series. There are several, one being "The Hollows Series" by Kim Harrison. Margarete Gavin narrated.(Every book got better and when the series ended on book 13 it had a great ending) When Faith Hunter decides to end the series I'm sure it will be just as fantastic.
Who's better than Jane and Beast. But the Younger Brothers and Bruiser are hard to beat. and in this book I had sympathy for Leo, and what he has to deal with (even though he's a predator) There's a lot going on in this story that makes it really non-stop action from start to finish.
I've listened to her do this entire series. She is fantastic with all the characters, accents, and emotions. I can't imagine anyone else narrating this series.
When Jane was in the church and so badly burned and couldn't change with Bruiser. The battle she fought with herself and her Beast to pull through was really moving.
I have a feeling the next book with bring the Europeans into the story, and it will be VERY NASTY. But I think Jane and Beast will pull off another win.
This is book 17, what happened to the fight against Shadowing? So many side plots and characters it's really becoming annoying and getting away from the original story. Yes there were a few pieces of background information that helped bring other back story together, but all the other stuff just was fluff to fill until the next book. Why?
Yes this series, and it's getting a bit boring and anti-climatic waiting for the "Spirit Seals" and the war with "Shadowing" to come to a head. This is book 17 and it's not even getting close to a finish line, just a clue in the end about a new general that will be in charge of Shadowing's army. How many more books will it take to get to the end of this. I don't mind side stories if it leads to the main plot. This one really didn't even come close to touching on "OtherWorld" and the War with Shadowing.
The was one in which some of the past was tied together, but I don't want to give it away Or maybe I should so people can save a credit. It's about Delilah, meeting with her twin and having things explained to her as to why nothing was mentioned to any of the sisters about the twin while either of the parents were alive.
I think this book could have been not even written and the information that was needed put in a book that went on with the main story about the Spirit Seals and Shadowing. I felt this book was just filler to keep people buying books. Yes there has to be another book and at this rate there will be at least 5 or 6 more. Who knows. It seems to me the Author is getting either greedy or can't get a conclusion put together for this series.
Get it together, I'm not sure I'll even get the next book unless it gets more involved with the ending of this series. Some authors get caught up with their characters and don't know how to put their series to a good ending. Follow Kim Harrison, with the "Hollow's series" that had a great ending after 13 books. Had a great ending though not perfect. I felt every credit I spent was worth it. I'm feeling reluctant to get into any more in this "Otherworld/Sisters" series. I don't know how others feel but I will question purchasing the next book in this series.
Fantastic story, and yes I'd listen to the whole series again. This story was very different from the others. Shared background about Charles, and his friend (not werewolf) Joseph.
Always Charles and Anna, but Joseph really made this story special. It was emotional and touching and loving in so many ways.
He's been narrating the series since the start. I think he does a fine job at narration for this series.
I listened to it in two days. I couldn't stop, but you know at the end there is more to come regarding the "Fae", and it won't be nice.
I love all Patricia Briggs series. Looking forward to the next in this and with Mercy Thompson series. Always strong women and action packed.
