"Great book! The reader takes some getting used to."
I would give it 5 stars if it had a better reader. He has no range of voices. They all sound pretty much the same. The story is an interesting mix of Sci-Fi and Fantasy and I enjoyed it very much and will continue the series in spite of the reader.
"A different Logan's Run"
This would be a good book to read, I think. The narration was done poorly. Mr. Wyman did a great job voicing the different characters. When it came to the narrative, however, he couldn't have been any more boring. Slow, sleepy, monotone. Even the action parts had no emotion whatsoever!
No
"Not what I was expecting"
If you think that this is a book about the fascinating exploration of an alien artifact, you would be mistaken. If you think that this is a book about the crew who investigates an alien artifact and the alien artifact is just a background to their story then, unfortunately, you would be correct. It was mostly boring and really only got better towards the end.
"Great book, not impressed with the reader"
Maybe it is because I just listened to a novel read by David Suchet. (He is the Master of voices!) I thought Pinchot voiced the different characters fairly well, it was his reciting of the narrative that was uninspired. He sounded like he was bored most of the time. Maybe it's just me. Great book though.
"Tedious"
This book would be more interesting if it was actually about aerial combat with dragons. Yes, the last hour involved some aerial combat, but, the bringing up baby story to get to that point was very tedious. I really don't care about how many cows Temeraire had for breakfast. I was hoping that the next book would continue the story about the war with Napoleon, but, apparently it doesn't.
"Brilliant!"
David Suchet has got to be the best narrator I have ever listened to. His voice acting is superb and really makes this classic come to life.
"The Comet takes too long to hit"
The beginning was very boring to me. I kept at it knowing that it had to get better after the comet hit. It did, but then, it ended way too quickly and some of the events were glossed over. Still, not a bad listen, could have been better...
"Brilliant!"
David Suchet has got to be the best narrator that I have ever heard. Just absolutely brilliant! P.S. The book is not bad as well...
