I love the way Dickens writes. I enjoyed Great Expectations "far, far" more than I expected to. It made me eager to read more of his works.
This combination of talent is ideal for any Austen fan. While not Austen's best work, definitely worth the time. The heroine Anne may not be a favorite but she has her charms. And the Captain is also an easy hero to love.
I've heard so many rave about this series, I decided to try it out. This book was pretty slow for me. I'll likely read other books in the series but not in the near future.
Napoleon Hill has interviewed some of the most successful men who ever lived. His final interview to be published in this book. Here he has a conversation with the devil where he learns how to best overcome and not be influenced by him.
Well worth the time!
Delightful little read. Just my style. Several short stories that all come together in the end.
I've never read any of these books before so it was fun to read the original story. I was kind of hoping that Anne Hathaway was going to sing Over the Rainbow at the beginning but no such luck.
Anne did an amazing job reading the book. She brought additional life to the story.
Probably what I liked most was Dorothy as the heroine. She makes friends, forms solid friendships, and has genuine concern for those around her and that's how she accomplishes her goal. All in all, a delightful story very well read.
I started this book to find another 84 Charing Cross Road. It wasn't but I liked it as well. The book is a series of letters, an absolutely charming way to tell a story. While the method lends itself to lighter topics, this story didn't avoid difficult subjects which I appreciated.
Naughty, naughty, naughty. I'm a self-proclaimed and proud prude. And this is not a book for us.
I would probably give it 2.5 stars. I love the movie a lot. And I loved Saving Mr. Banks. But the Mary Poppins in the book was not Julie Andrews. She was pretty harsh and vain. (Something they allude to in the movie and play, but it went overboard in the book.)
Anyway, sit down and watch the movie instead of reading the book. :)
BJ super disappointed me with this book. I only got a few minutes into it and had to turn it off. So much swearing at the beginning. Blech. Not something I want to listen to!
Don't spend your time reading this book about revenge, it is unsatisfying. Read Les Miserables, a book about redemption--it is VERY satisfying and inspiring.
