This wasn't a light read. It's definitely a haunting book that will stay with you for awhile. I will likely have to read it again at some point in my life because it makes some pretty profound points when it comes to claiming to be a religious person.
It tells of an early Christian missionary in Japan at a time when Christianity was banned. The main character was a pious Christian priest and takes us through the ups and downs of believing something with our whole hearts.
An idea that was shared at the beginning of the book and haunted me through the rest was that we all one day come to see us become like Judas. It points out that we need to constantly need to guard our testimonies and that they are a lot more frail that we would like to admit.
Well worth the time but is really heavy.
This book took such a unique view of World War II; showing the perspective of a German soldier was extremely fascinating and helped me understand how the German citizens may have felt during Hitler's reign.
Definitely a fascinating and eye-opening read.
I hadn't listened to many of Jim Gaffigan's sketches so I wondered if I would enjoy the book, but I found it on an Audible sale one day and bought it. The whole book was thoroughly enjoyable. I am a total prude when it comes to content, and so I appreciated how clean and funny it was. For those who have families or are part of a family, this book is for you.
While this was a cute story, that was well-performed, I don't know that I would recommend to anyone to run out and read it. It is a fun story for really young girls.
I'm new to the fantasy genre but have thoroughly enjoyed the Mistborn series. The story of a girl and her efforts to save a people from an unknown enemy. Strong characters, strong story, and well-read!
I love when I get lost in a book. That is one of the best feelings ever. I'm not much of a fantasy reader, but totally enjoyed book #1 of the Mistborn series. It seems everywhere I turn, someone is talking about Brandon Sanderson and what an excellent author he is. I would now add my voice to that crowd.
The Mistborn series is about a group of slaves trying to defeat the lord ruler. Engaging, well-written, with good characters. All in all, a very fun read. And I'm very glad that there are more books in this series!
I'm not a follower of the Freakonomics podcast so I found this book especially interesting! Loved the insights into thinking like a freak, as well as the stories told. Well written, well performed!
Old time radio, with the scratchy sounds, is so charming to me. This is an excellent compilation of Jimmy Stewart classics, performed by the masters.
I really love the great Lucy Maude, but this book was probably a low point for me. If you are interested in this book, I would say spend the time re-reading one of the Anne books.
I really enjoyed Rob's first book, I felt like we were besties when I was finished. He is such a fantastic story-teller and writer that it makes the book very engaging. The overall point about us needing to love life was a great one. Enjoyable read.
I am an Austen purist and not really into the whole zombie thing and was nervous to venture into the P and P and Zombies but I loved every minute of it. Katherine Kellgren was EXCELLENT and made the book even better. Thoroughly silly and enjoyable!
