J.M. Barrie + Jim Dale equals a truly delightful read. The story of Peter Pan is one for children and adults alike. The way Jim Dale read it brought the story even more to life and it left me wanting more. The way Barrie included himself as a character in this book is so fun and an enjoyable way to tell a story!

Love Life serves up another delicious selection of intimate stories and observations from Rob Lowe's life, told with humor, warmth, and brutal honesty. After writing his acclaimed debut effort, Lowe felt he had more stories to share and many more friends to introduce. The result is a touching memoir about the business and craft of acting, the pitfalls of success, family, love, and much more.

When Navy SEAL Adam Brown woke up on March 17, 2010, he didn’t know he would die that night in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan - but he was ready: In a letter to his children, not meant to be seen unless the worst happened, he wrote, "I’m not afraid of anything that might happen to me on this earth, because I know no matter what, nothing can take my spirit from me."

Well read, well written, great story. Adam Brown really is a national hero. He gave his life for our freedom. The author did a great job sharing what drove this hero to give and give to a cause he believed in. It makes me more and more grateful for those who volunteer to serve and protect the United States. I'm also grateful for all that was shared about his faith and spirituality. It is the underlying theme of Adam's life and in turn this audio production.

One of the most revered works in English literature, Great Expectations traces the coming of age of a young orphan, Pip, from a boy of shallow aspirations into a man of maturity. From the chilling opening confrontation with an escaped convict to the grand but eerily disheveled estate of bitter old Miss Havisham, all is not what it seems in Dickens’ dark tale of false illusions and thwarted desire.

Based in part on Dickens's own life, it is the story of a young man's journey from an unhappy and impoverished childhood to the discovery of his vocation as a successful novelist. Among its gloriously vivid cast of characters, he e.ncounters his tyrannical stepfather, Mr. Murdstone; his formidable aunt, Betsey Trotwood; the eternally humble yet treacherous Uriah Heep; the frivolous, enchanting Dora; and one of literature's great comic creations, the magnificently impecunious Mr. Micawber.

I am continually stunned by this authors ability to make words truly delicious! His analogies, insights into human nature, and humor is completely enjoyable for me. I've never really enjoyed watching movies based on Dickens work but his books are incredible. Strong characters, delightful conversation, and very human. Sigh. I just really really loved this book.

Simon Vance did an excellent job of reading. It is like listening to a one man play.

Researcher and thought leader Dr. Brené Brown offers a powerful new vision that encourages us to dare greatly: to embrace vulnerability and imperfection, to live wholeheartedly, and to courageously engage in our lives. In Daring Greatly, Dr. Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability. Based on 12 years of research, her book argues that vulnerability is not weakness but rather our clearest path to courage, engagement, and meaningful connection.

Brene Brown and her work entered into my life exactly when I needed her most. She talks about letting go of perfection and others expectations and being aware of what you may be doing to cause shame on another person. Her goal is to help others live whole-heartedly. A nice, soul-searching read.

Best friends Will Halloway and Jim Nightshade know there's something odd in the late October air. It all begins when a lightning-rod salesman appears one evening and insists that they take one of his contraptions covered with mystical protection symbols. Later, the boys look on as an eerie carnival rolls into town. Mysterious and sinister events take place, and what they witness on the carousel is enough to send them running.

Masterfully written! HOWEVER, the story is terrifying.

A friend wrote: Oh my weird! This really is a bizarre but wonderfully written book. I don't think I've ever read anything so eerie. At first I was frustrated because it's written in a way that makes it impossible to get your bearings. But then I realized that that's the point! The author mixes metaphorical and poetic prose with narrative in a way that feels completely discombobulating, and yet if you ignore the urge to figure out what is "real" and what is not, you know exactly what it would feel like to be there if it was! I recommend it because it's unique, although be aware it may mess with your dreams

Recipient of the 1966 Tanizaki Prize, it has been called Endo's supreme achievement" and "one of the twentieth century's finest novels". Considered controversial ever since its first publication, it tackles the thorniest religious issues of belief and faith head on. A novel of historical fiction, it is the story of a Jesuit missionary sent to seventeenth century Japan, who endured persecution that followed the defeat of the Shimabara Rebellion.

This wasn't a light read. It's definitely a haunting book that will stay with you for awhile. I will likely have to read it again at some point in my life because it makes some pretty profound points when it comes to claiming to be a religious person.

It tells of an early Christian missionary in Japan at a time when Christianity was banned. The main character was a pious Christian priest and takes us through the ups and downs of believing something with our whole hearts.

An idea that was shared at the beginning of the book and haunted me through the rest was that we all one day come to see us become like Judas. It points out that we need to constantly need to guard our testimonies and that they are a lot more frail that we would like to admit.

Well worth the time but is really heavy.

Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

The holidays are upon us, and this year Audible is very happy to present to our members one of Charles Dickens’ most popular Christmas stories, The Cricket on the Hearth. This holiday classic (original subtitle: “A Fairy Tale of Home”) tells the innocent, picturesque, and charming story of a poor family and their would-be guardian angel; in short, a delightful vision of Victorian Christmas. As always, a great story calls for a great voice, so we’ve brought in legendary actor and record-breaking Audie and Grammy award-winning narrator Jim Dale (The Night Circus). Happy holidays and happy listening!

Thank you for the wonderful gift Audible! I love being a member!! Jim Dale is AMAZING. If you had him read the phone book, I would pay a lot of money to download it. I appreciate that it was said, "Performed by Jim Dale." He doesn't just read the story, each time he reads, it's a masterful performance!

Dickens+Jim Dale=A Very Merry Christmas for me. Thank you again!
