The first of a new young adult trilogy, The Demon King features a former thief, Han, who’s trying to provide for his mother and sister. One day Han, who sports mysterious (and certainly magical) silver cuffs on his wrists, confronts wizards setting fire to a sacred mountain. Now possessing one ofthe wizards’ amulets, Han faces more trouble than he ever could have imagined.

I am 11 years old. I had to read this book for summer reading at my school. It really helped me understand the book as I read it. I made a 100, all 20 points on the AR test. I recommend it because it is a really good story.

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

I have tried twice maybe three times to listen to Hounded. I just don't get it. The narration lacks inflection and puts me to sleep. The storyline does not make up for the narrator. I've listened to a lot of audio books and have loved many; Yet, this one will be on the list of those I couldn't even make it through to the end. It makes me wonder, with all the fantastic reviews presented here, what did I miss?

With unforgettable characters, a sweeping backdrop, and passionate storytelling, this is a fantasy debut to rival that of Robert Jordan. Filled with adventure and bloodshed, pageantry and piracy, mystery and menace, Assassin's Apprentice is the story of a royal house and the young man who is destined to chart its course through tempests of change.

Robin Hobb has created a complex world that integrates everything one hopes for in a fantasy novel: strong characters and story full of depth and believability despite the elements of impossibility. I have both read and listened to this series. Each experience has left me thankful for having done so.

The narration is outstanding!!! I can not emphasize the importance of this fact. Boehmer flavors each character and the story as a whole into something unique. One of the sad facts of the audio genre is that a bad narration can destroy a good book. The best narrators become one with the stories themselves, so much so that one can't conceive the part having been done without the other.

Young Fitz, the illegitimate son of the noble Prince Chivalry, is ignored by all royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has had him tutored him in the dark arts of the assassin. He has barely survived his first, soul-shattering mission, and when he returns to the court, he is thrown headfirst into the tumult of royal life.

When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin. But being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger. Except now he has nobody, and no magic to help him. And there are also several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own. To save his friends - and his own soul - Harry will have to pull off the ultimate trick without any magic....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Of course, I would recommend this AB to a friend because Jim Butcher is an amazing writer!!! I am astounded at the amount of vitriolic mojo against the narrator. No, this isn't James Marsters, but John Glover is not an amateur either. It is human nature to make comparisons since we had had Marsters' awesome narration for such a long time, but I suspect that outcry over this edition will be enough to continue his lovely voice for the next several books. Remember, Marster's narration of Full Moon was NOT the best in terms of production. I can still remember staccato breathing.

Yet, I would tell anyone who started this series to 'hold fast' because it will keep getting better. Ghost Story is a transition piece for Harry's character development. Perhaps it is appropriate that the narrator is different.

What about John Glover’s performance did you like?

I would tell John Glover that his performance was stupendous considering the fan base following Jim Butcher's series. Yes, there were different pronunciations and inflections that a listener had come to expect from Marsters that Glover did not emulate. But, oh well, I still loved the characters because of the way the story was written. My imagination is strong enough that I can make that leap of faith.

    Any additional comments?

Please don't hesitate to buy this audiobook because of those who have written against the narration. Ultimately, it doesn't matter because Harry, as a character, can survive ONE reading that one may not expect. Yet, the more I listen to Glover, my belief is that he can hold his own when it comes to interpreting text. Forget your expectations, concentrate on the story and know that this Glover is not a hack. He may not read like Marsters, but he does his job. And be thankful that Jim Butcher is a consistent writer which gives his fans an excellent series who can't wait for the next book to come out!!!

To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare, woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, she has endured a tumultuous year of temptation, loss, and strife to reach the ultimate turning point.

    Overall

Having read all the Twilight series in book form, I just had to listen to them as well. I find the experiences uniquely different in that both add to the story if done RIGHT. This is the key in audio books. The wrong material may be saved by a great narrator. A bad narrator rarely raises the material to listening level. Yet, in the Twilight audio series both are present.
