A useful review of the many aspects, now fading, of the "First Gulf War". Good synopsis of how it occurred and the angst of the population at the time when wars in the MidEast seemed rare to the west & the US.
An amazing narrative, well presented & laid out logically to help decipher the myriad of details.... with a good storyline of the leaders interaction / dynamics interwoven. Strongly recommend!
Well done... good review of the events leading to and resulting from another intelligence coup. Strongly recommend!
An amazing view from the Japanese side of not just Midway, but the road to World War II & Japan's aspects on the war and campaigns is an amazing narrative by men who fought thru it.... I greatly enjoyed it.
Like so many "larger than life" events, Gettysburg is misunderstood to anyone who only had to memorize the address in grade school!!!! A well written, short summary of the critical aspects ends with that speech that defines why the public awes soldier's ability to sacrifice.
For so many, the actual sounds & audio clips can make a far away incident believable, the BBC did that!! For a history buff, their old audio cuts are great treats... well made.
Well researched, logically laid out & in clear language to de-mystify the military jargon..... a great book!
Again, his research with survivors, beyond documents, resulted in a narrative I could not put down.... the classic histories cover all the facts, but Shaara's ability to weave surviving veterans interviews in to first person drama is amazing.... for any veteran who's been fired on, a reader gets the same shocks soldiers try to suppress and still fight... that's a big challenge for most writers! Well done.
Well researched as usual...... I've read the classic histories of this campaign.... I have walked all 5 beaches in humble awe.... and I was still surprised with aspects from the German side in his narrative..... another awesome work.
I am always impressed with Shaara's research to find in depth details of "ordinary guys" to bring a key event to life! Another great book.
I have truly loved all five "listens" of this very intruiging series! Very worth while!
