As a family (3 generations of us) we are all devoted fans of Katherine Kellgren. We chose this book because of the narrator and we were not disappointed. It has to be said though that with this story, she did have some wonderful material to work with. This is an excellent story with great moments of humour and off the wall events that take you by surprise but contribute to making the book such a wonderful listening experience. A girl pirate with a governess and a travelling gargoyle. Kinds of sums up the wonderful silliness!
The narrators did an excellent job. They did have a great story to work with though!
I remember reading the Lucy Montgomery books as a child and always thought they were books that boys would not enjoy. My son has proved me wrong and enjoyed to this book every bit as much as I did. The performances are great and Anne's moments of melodrama are as funny now as they were then.
We listened to this on a long car journey with my 9 year old son and he didn't want to get out of the car at any point and risk missing part of the story! He loves adventure stories and this falls firmly into that category. A great listen for kids and one parents will enjoy too.
I bought this for my son (6 going on 7) and he enjoyed it thoroughly. As an adult reader listening to the books after having read them for the first time a number of years ago, it was a trip down memory lane! The boys were older than I remembered and I seemed to remember more independence from them as well. We both enjoyed the story and thought Bill Irwin did a very good job. It was the first Hardy Boys we have listened to but it won't be the last.
