  • Atlas Shrugged

    • UNABRIDGED (63 hrs)
    • By Ayn Rand
    • Narrated By Scott Brick

In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

Mica says: "Hurt version decidedly superior"
"not for new listeners, but very interesting"

This book really tested me. It was hard to get into and hard to finish. But the middle was great. it was so interesting how this work of fiction paralelled what was happening (it seemed to me) so excatly in our own economy.
try this book if you feel you are a hard core listener, it is amazing, and scary

  • The March: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 11 mins)
    • By E.L. Doctorow
    • Narrated By Joe Morton
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Almost hypnotic in its narrative drive, The March stunningly renders the countless lives swept up in the violence of a country at war with itself. The great march in E.L. Doctorow's hands becomes something more, a floating world, a nomadic consciousness, and an unforgettable reading experience with awesome relevance to our own times.

    Jim E says: "Uncivil War"
"not a light read, but interesting"

The March, had lots of great characters, and the narrator was a very good reader. It was jus ok in my mind. It is very short, but it is a little but hard to get into.

  • The Bonfire of the Vanities

    • UNABRIDGED (27 hrs and 28 mins)
    • By Tom Wolfe
    • Narrated By Joe Barrett
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Tom Wolfe's best-selling modern classic tells the story of Sherman McCoy, an elite Wall Street bond trader who has it all: wealth, power, prestige, a Park Avenue apartment, a beautiful wife, and an even more beautiful mistress - until one wrong turn sends Sherman spiraling downward into a humiliating fall from grace. A car accident in the Bronx involving Sherman, his girlfriend, and two young lower-class black men sets a match to the incendiary racial and social tensions of 1980s New York City.

    JOHN says: "TEN STARS"
"UGH. Why did I think this was a classic?"

This book was long. That is about the only good thing I can say for it. It reads like pop fiction without any of the fun. It was dull with over cooked plot and characters.

  • The Help

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By Kathryn Stockett
    • Narrated By Jenna Lamia, Bahni Turpin, Octavia Spencer, and others

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Jan says: "What a great surprise!"
"You want this book! It is a super listener"

This might be the best book I have downloaded this year. Great story, adn the characters were so wonderful. Lovable, and smart. there are so many different voices int his book it is really fun to listen to. The author and the narrator do a great job bringing the dialec to life.

  • The Time Traveler's Wife

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 43 mins)
    • By Audrey Niffenegger
    • Narrated By Fred Berman, Phoebe Strole

Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

Scott says: "Epic Drama & Love Story through Time Travel"
"Very good listen, long, and unabridged"

This was a really good book. Great story good characters, fast moving story and really well read. I love long books that are this good. It will make me see the movie for sure.

  • The Little Giant of Aberdeen County

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 28 mins)
    • By Tiffany Baker
    • Narrated By Carrington MacDuffie
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Truly Plaice, an overly large and ungainly girl, is the polar opposite of her sister, Serena Jane, the epitome of feminine perfection. With their parents dead, Truly and Serena Jane are separated: Serena Jane to live a life of privilege as the future May Queen and Truly to live on the outskirts of town, the subject of constant abuse and humiliation.

Tracie says: "Pretty good - but could have been Truly good!"
    "Worth the credit"

No a bad listen. A little slow, but good characters, and sweet story. Everyone likes a little magical realism. At least I do. Not a book I will listen again and again though.
