What began as a quest for truth has become a struggle for survival for Luke Skywalker and his son, Ben. They have used the secrets of the Mindwalkers to transcend their own bodies and speak with the spirits of the fallen, risking their very lives in the process. They have faced a team of Sith assassins and beaten the odds to destroy them. And now the death squad’s sole survivor, Sith apprentice Vestara Khai, has summoned an entire fleet of Sith frigates to engage the embattled father and son.

So far I think this is the best of this series of Star Wars books. a good story, although none of the books in the expanded universe have captured the magic of the original Star Wars trilogy. But I admit that I am probably biased about that.

What makes this particular series of Star Wars novels such fun to listen to is the narrator. Marc Thompson is fantastic. He really sounds like he has studied these characters. Luke Skywalker sounds like Luke, Han Solo sounds like Han. Thompson's impressions of alien characters is superb. I have been looking forward to each book for the narrator as much as the story itself.

Meet 22-year-old Cherry Pye (née Cheryl Bunterman), a pop star since she was 14—and about to attempt a comeback from her latest drug-and-alcohol disaster. Now meet Cherry again: in the person of her “undercover stunt double”, Ann DeLusia. Ann portrays Cherry whenever the singer is too “indisposed”—meaning wasted—to go out in public. And it is Ann-mistaken-for-Cherry who is kidnapped from a South Beach hotel by obsessed paparazzo Bang Abbott.

A great start. Can't wait for this next Carl Hiaasen book. Always a great listen.
