This is a story for all animal lovers and all Americans. It is the story of the underdog - the American 'rags to riches' dream, all told in an eloquent, inspiring tone. The narrator wasn't the greatest, but he improved throughout the story and there was nothing irritating about his style. Unlike other reviewers, I loved the American history lesson that went along with horse story. It added depth and meaning to the story. Even if you don't care for horses, or don't know much about them, this story will make you a horse lover, or at the very least develop compassion for animals. It will inspire you to be a better person. As an avid, this is in the top five books I have read in the last 2 years!

Given this book was written hastily due to the contemporary nature of it, this was a great read! The narrator's voice was a bit sing-songy, but knowing he is an astronaut telling his own story and not a professional narrator, it was no problem. Besides, the emotion of the story easily overcomes any shortcomings the narrator might have. In trying to find adjectives for this book, I can only keep coming up with one - INSPIRATIONAL! GO GABBY! GO MARK!

This is the best narrated book I have ever heard and an absolutely riveting story! I can't wait for Kathryn Stockett to write her next book. The story unfolds in a most entertaining and thought provoking way and is interesting on many levels. This is an absolute MUST read/listen! It will no doubt be a best seller for months or years.
