First published in 1970, nine years after Hemingway's death, this is the story of an artist and adventurer, a man much like Hemingway himself. Beginning in the 1930s, Islands in the Stream follows the fortunes of Thomas Hudson, from his experiences as a painter on the Gulf Stream island of Bimini through his antisubmarine activities off the coast of Cuba during World War II. Hemingway is at his mature best in this beguiling tale.

Paul says: "Best presentation of any audiobook ever."
    "Love the characterizations!"

The narrator manages to "do" the characters better than if I had been reading the book and making up their voices in my head. :-) Thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook.

Louis is a Trumpeter Swan, but he has no voice. Leaving his wild and beautiful home, he finds a young human friend, Sam Beaver, who helps him learn to read and write. When he returns to the lake, Louis discovers his education isn't enough: the beautiful swan he loves, Serena, can't read his declarations of love, and he can't trumpet them. Louis' resolution to win the swan of his desire launches him on an adventure that will take him far from home and lead where fate and love have a few surprises in store.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Trumpet of the Swan to be better than the print version?

We are a huge fan of the print version, but to be able to hear E.B. White tell his story....priceless!

    Any additional comments?

My kids giggled and cracked up so many times while listening. This is a good listen for all ages.

When Portuguese sailor Ferdinand Magellan set sail from Spain in 1519, he believed he could get to the Spice Islands by sailing west through or around the New World. He was right, but what he didn't know was that the treacherous voyage would take him three years and cost him his life.

...and my kids, ages 8 & under, are starting to get into them. We listened to this for a couple nights while going to sleep, and it has generated conversation the next day. Can't ask for more. :-)

In this special compilation, you'll hear exhilarating excerpts from classic interviews with 14 stars of comedy, including Tracey Ullman on her zany characters, Chris Rock on growing up small and black in a white neighborhood, Carol Leifer on the inspiration for her brand of cabaret comedy, and Henny Youngman on his famous line, "Take my wife, please."

Enjoyable listen, but there's no interview with David Hyde Pierce as the description says! Very disappointing for me as I found this (and subsequently purchased) due to a search on David Hyde Piece.

    Buyer beware.

This explosive new audiobook challenges many of the long-held assumptions about blacks, about Jews, about Germans and Nazis, about slavery, and about education. Plainly written, powerfully reasoned, and backed with a startling array of documented facts, Black Rednecks and White Liberals takes on the trendy intellectuals of our times as well as historic interpreters of American life.

    J. Johnston says: "Great Book, Somewhat Misleading Title"
    "Good listening"

While the subject matter is interesting, what makes this a superior listen is the narration by Hugh Mann. I need to hear him read more!
