This storyline in my opinion had the potential to be fantastic, but the narration slaughtered it for me. I think that is one of the worst narrations I've heard, and that's saying a lot. The woman had this monotone voice that just didn't do it for me. She even had this one character who, when I found out had been killed, I was happy since I wouldn't have to hear the awful voice for her again. I know that's awful, but another issue I had with this and I'm not sure if it was the narrator or the way it was written, but I found the transitions to action sequences happened in such a way that I had to keep going back to even catch them. I hope they get a different narrator for any subsequent books in this series.I did like the unicorn rider idea, a nice break from the dragon rider idea, though I wish they'd explained why there were no male unicorn riders .

Nope. For reasons previously stated. In fact I will probably be less likely to read a book narrated by her.

The story was greaat, for one thing, the author was very, very good at potraying a newly blind person who wasn't born that way. I know this because I am legally blind myself and know a lot of blind people. The story was good, and didn't have the heroine magically able to defend herself thank god. Also, the author delved into the issues of blindness and relationships to a great degee. The mystery wasn't much of a who-dunnit, it was more of a how-did-it.

I liked Mac, because he was willing to open up and accept someone with a disability, and he was a good cop, though he could lay on the jerk rather thickly.

I liked Natalie too, even her rudeness is quite normal, at least from what I've seen, so to some she might seem very unpleasant, but few people are when they are coming to terms with blindness.

I'd have liked a bit more differentiation between the voices of characters.

I was frankly stunned at how well the author did handling the blindness in this book. I thought the story was believable and not over the top. I know there is to be a sequel to this book, but I wish the main characters would stay the same.

I think this was a fantastic listen, the narrator does a great job with the timing of humor and the writing is just a lot of fun. I had to be careful while listening to this on the trolley to and from work to keep from busting out laughing and having people think I was nuts. I highly reccomend this book and if there are others by this author, I will certainly check them out.

I'm with the other reviewers on this one, the book was good, the narrator was AWFUL! She had no variation in her voice at all in reference to what the characters were saying or doing. Drove me nuts. I'd suggest reading this one or getting an ebook version.

I loved the first 5 books in the series, even Shelters of Stone, but this book was such an incredible let down after what, a ten year wait? My issues have to echo many of those posed by the other reviewers. I lost count of how many times "The Mother's Song" was repeated. Seriously, I found myself thinking on a number of occasions "she's not really going to make us read/listen to that again?!" I ended up fast forwarding through that annoyance on a number of occasions. I didn't mind the cave descriptions; I'm visually impaired, so a nice vivid description helps me picture what's around the characters much more.
Also, the events in the last part of the book are odd to me and seem remarkably out of character and forced. I really thought they seemed contrived, compared to the rest of the series. This book also, if it is the end of the series, ends very abruptly and I thought about going back and listening to the end again but I don't think its really worth it, if it didn't make enough of an impression on me the first time, I doubt it will the second. Plus, the "big discovery" is totally not one, though in the context of our species it is, but in the context of the story it wasn't...

I'm not saying don't read this book, just don't get your hopes up. I thought #5 had a much more tied together ending.
