Just a generation ago this place was called America. Now, after the worldwide implementation of UN-lead program called Agenda 21, it's simply known as the 'Republic'. There is no president. No congress. No Supreme Court. No freedom. There are only the Authorities. Citizens have two primary goals in the new Republic: to create clean energy and to create new human life. Those who cannot do either are of no use to society. This bleak and barren existence is all that 18-year-old Emmeline has ever known.

It was a book I needed to read. I think its something everyone should be aware of, as it's linked to real current events.

What did you like best about this story?

That it could actually play out or at least in a similar way.

Have you listened to any of January LaVoy’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. I thought she was expressive.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no. I had to parse this one out a little.

    Any additional comments?

The ending helps the reader figure out where these ideas came from.

Reacher is hitching through the heat of West Texas and getting desperate for a ride. The last thing he's worried about is exactly who picks him up.

She's called Carmen. She's a good-looking young woman, she has a beautiful little girl...and she has married into the wrong family. They're called the Greers. They're a bitter and miserly clan, and they've made her life a living hell. Worse, her monster of a husband is soon due out of prison. So she needs protection, and she needs it now.

Lawyers can't help. Cops can't be trusted. So Reacher goes home with her to the lonely ranch where nothing is as it seems, and where evil swirls around them like dust in a storm. Within days, Carmen's husband is dead - and simmering secrets send Echo, Texas, up in flames.

This was a very suspenseful story. The plot hooked me from the beginning, which usually happens when I read a Lee Child story. The ending was a surprise, so much so I had to go back, later, a few chapters and reread them. It was quite unexpected. I thought the narrator did a great job, even with the 6 year old. Yes the whining got a little old, but that was built into the story. This narrator kept me involved.
Being from Texas, I enjoyed the places in West Texas that were involved. I could have done without the extended agenda on illegal aliens and the seeming portrayal of Texas as bigots, but be that as it may, I still thoroughly enjoyed this story. The ending was worth it all.

The Incrementalists - a secret society of 200 people with an unbroken lineage reaching back 40,000 years. They cheat death, share lives and memories, and communicate with one another across nations, races, and time. They have an epic history, an almost magical memory, and a very modest mission: to make the world better, just a little bit at a time. Their ongoing argument about how to do this is older than most of their individual memories. Phil, whose personality has stayed stable through more incarnations than anyone else’s, has loved Celeste - and argued with her - for most of the last 400 years.

I don't think I'd recommend this one. I couldn't get into the story line. I fast forwarded ahead thinking it would get better. No.

Would you recommend The Incrementalists to your friends? Why or why not?

No. Too cerebral. Seems to move 2 spaces back and 1 step ahead at every turn.

Did The Incrementalists inspire you to do anything?

Get a Clive Cussler book for a really good read.

The dazzling new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from the grand master of adventure. It is called zero point energy - a state of energy contained in all matter everywhere, and thus all but unlimited. Nobody has ever found a way to tap into it, however - until one scientist discovers a way. The problem is, his machines also cause great earthquakes. If Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala and the rest of the NUMA team aren't able to find and destroy them, and soon, the world will be on the threshold of a new era of earth tremors and unchecked volcanism.

What made the experience of listening to Zero Hour the most enjoyable?

I've read many Clive Cussler books and this one didn't disappoint. A thrilling ride right to the end. Scott Brick is exceptional, again. His voices make the characters come alive.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kurt Austin is a great character and so was Joe.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Scott Brick is phenomenal. He even managed to impersonate a character with a burned out voice box. Incredible. Even the female voices are believable.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Keep it Zero Hour.

    Any additional comments?

    A great read. Thanks.

The recipient of Edgar, Anthony, and Macavity Awards, New York Times best-selling author C. J. Box has won almost every honor in his field. In Breaking Point, Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett is glad to catch up with old friend Lyle Pendergast, but then the man goes missing and is named a suspect in the death of two EPA employees. All signs point to Lyle’s guilt, but the more Joe digs into the case, the more he realizes he’s stepped into the middle of a deadly power play.

Where does Breaking Point rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was my first C J Box novel and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plot held me from the beginning and the twist in the ending was wonderful. I like how he has a character to stand up to the EPA, the symbol of a government out of control and tyrannical, as it appears to actually be with this administration.

It's little guy against the government thugs and politicians. Wonderful plot. Great story line and the picturesque background make for a great read. .

The List is a technothriller about a group of people who each have tattoos of numbers on the bottoms their feet, and don't know why. One of them, a Chicago Homicide cop named Tom Mankowski, has had one of these strange tattoos since birth. When he investigates a violent murder and discovers the victim also has a tattooed number, it sets the ball rolling for an adventure of historic proportions. To say more would give away too much.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I had to stop this one. Couldn't go on. Starts out okay, but then the plot becomes just too idiotic. Also, there was a heavy emphasis on developing the homosexual male characters to the exclusion of the others. It stopped being about the plot and became one of the author's agenda. If I'd wanted a book about homo eroticism I'd have asked for it. The narrator was doing his best to feminize the characters. Just got to be disgusting.

Besides this the plot, although it starts out well enough, becomes so farcical it was hard not to laugh.

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. They are each other’s last chance.

I was fascinated by the point of view of Maggie, the dog. This could have been so lame, but it was fascinating. Plot was satisfying and kept me engaged throughout. I'm quite satisfied and would read another from Crais.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Would you listen to 14 again? Why?

Yes, I would listen to this again. It was suspenseful, with just the right amount of humour, with several twists in the plot.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the whole idea that the building was a part of a time warp keyhole thing, and that other people had been there before dealing with life and death decisions. Also the inclusion of Tesla as one of the creators of the machine was intriguing.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Going across to the other side and dealing with the swales. Also liked the discovery of the machine in the building.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Nothing, the narrator's voicings, especially of Viek were spot on.

    Any additional comments?

An enjoyable read. This is the closest to Lovecraft I've seen in a long time. I laughed and cried, got upset with the monsters, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Scott Brick is an excellent narrator. You think you're hearing different people's voices. He manages to keep the excitement and suspense alive.

Joe Zavala and the whole Aswan dam incident.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The description of the things creating the storm were compelling. I enjoyed the inclusion of the Pain Maker and thought that was quite intriguing.
