I didn't find the narrator to be distracting at all. He reminded me of the narrator of the movie. I would recommend watching the movie and reading the book for comparison of the two. Both are fantastic.
I love the premise of this book but it was poorly executed. The manner in which the book was written did not coincide with the narrator being a linguistics professor at Harvard, Alzheimer's disease or not. The narrator sounding so young wasn't the best match for this book either.
