What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Greater vocabulary, no long phrases that are almost never used by novice speakers (what else could you be with a 1 hour program?). For instance, toilet should be a vocabulary word, not "what shows are playing at the opera next Thursday". (not an exact quote from the title but close enough).

Has Mandarin Chinese...In 60 Minutes turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

Would you be willing to try another one of the narrator’s performances?

    N/A

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It did give a few useful words and the repetition of words was appropriate.
