"New Raving Somerset Fan"
After reading a brief biography of Somerset Maugham's life I was interested in reading his books. I've started with Short Stories 2 and 3 and while 3 was my favorite they were both really great. Even though they are shorter then a lot of the other books, they are worth every cent or full credit point. His stories are detailed and colorful and really get you thinking about every side of a problem and story. It seems his goal is to help you consider another side of your set opinion on right and wrong and morality and never take anyone or anything at face value or for granted. These stories will keep you thinking which is the best part of reading or listening to any book. This narrator was great, and although it was dramatized in parts which is something I don't usually like, he does it so well that I actually enjoyed it and helped add color to characters.
"Pleasantly surprised & very impressed....."
I downloaded this book on a whim not being a big Rob Lowe fan besides enjoying him mainly recently in Parks & Recreation. He always seemed a bit too much of a pretty boy and seeing him in a different light with these candid stories challenged me to re check myself on my assumptions of people without better knowledge or understanding. The audio was worth his incredible voice impersonations alone which I was quite impressed by. He was also so personable, candid and mature in such an un-epexpected and down to earth way. Growing up with a lot of his first movies and being familiar with so many actors referenced I found myself going online to look up movies, people, places and take a second look at movies I had previously written off. I loved the impersonation and story of meeting Cary Grant. All in all, just a really interesting and surprisingly uplifting book. With him personally narrating it I highly recommend it as an Audio which I think takes this book to a whole different level that reading in print would be hugely missing out on.
"You won't want it to end!"
Simple in writing but it draws you in and makes you relate and remember experiences, feelings and situations in yourself and friends that are similar to the best and worst characters in the story. It wraps up a little quicker then I expected after such a long audio but it's probably the best book I've heard to date and has had me thinking and rethinking situations, events in my own life. It was a fantastic listen!
