"Lots of Words, Little Plot"
If you like highly descriptive prose, this book is for you! If you appreciate long descriptions of each and every character -- even those that don't advance the story -- or if you enjoy books with little or no plot at all, then this book is for you!
I like eclectic and offbeat reads, but I found this book to be tedious and endless. I slogged through the whole thing, but that was only stubborness on my part. I can't even claim unrequited curiosity -- at the midpoint I just wanted the main character (and all the other hundreds of thoroughly-described characters) to be hit by a bus.
"GREAT read!"
This is a GREAT book! The plot moves briskly, but slows to allow the reader to savor key scenes. There are flashbacks -- they enrich the story and add depth to the reader's understanding of the characters. I seldom rate books at 5 stars, but I did it here. The next book of this series is currently downloading to my MP3 player!
"Solid writing, great read"
This book is well written and intriguing. I listened to it once, and then filled time while on business travel listening to it again. I seldom write reviews, but felt that this is a book worth recommending.
"A great book"
As one of the other reviewers noted -- your family will always see you with your headphones on as you listen to this book.
Though long, the story keeps the reader engaged. The story line is great, the characters are believable, and the narration is superb. I highly recommend the book.
"Worth the time spent"
Time spent with this book, set in WWII, is not wasted. Two enigmatic brothers -- twins -- are separated at age 12. One later becomes a flying ace for the Luftwaffe, and the other flies for the British. My husband and I both listened to the book and we both felt it was worth the read.
