The wickedest, most wonderful science fiction story ever created in our - or any - time. Anything can begin at a party in California - and everything does in this bold masterwork by a grand master of science fiction. When four supremely sensual and unspeakably cerebral humans - two male, two female - find themselves under attack from aliens who want their awesome quantum breakthrough, they take to the skies - and zoom into the cosmos on a rocket roller-coaster ride of adventure, danger, ecstasy, and peril.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    A different story.

What was most disappointing about Robert A. Heinlein???s story?

My first Heinlein book, thought he was a master of sci-fi but it was all nudity, incest, wife swapping etc. Where's the sci-fi!! He is an award winner so maybe I just don't get it, but I still don't know the "number of the beast"!

How could the performance have been better?

They did the best they could with what they had to work with.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Number of the Beast?

    All but the first.

When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin. But being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger. Except now he has nobody, and no magic to help him. And there are also several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own. To save his friends - and his own soul - Harry will have to pull off the ultimate trick without any magic....

I like the Dresden books, but there was something missing in this one. There was a lot of fluff just to find out Dresden was fooled into becoming the Winter Knight and couldn't get out of it. I guess it will be interesting to see were this goes.

Redemption isn't a word Jim Heron knows much about - his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charged with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins. Vin diPietro long ago sold his soul to his business, and he's good with that - until fate intervenes in the form of a tough-talking Harley-riding, self-professed savior.

Ok, a little sex in your Sci-Fi can be a good thing but unfortunately this is another series that apparently makes it a co-star. Surprisingly the fallen angel aspect of story is quite good but unfortunately about 30% of the story is really just soft porn. Actually not just soft porn but porn written by an adolescent who still dreams of Disney and princes. A 21 minute sex scene (yes I timed it) where the rich man and the star hooker have their first sex is almost nauseating (trust me, worse than dime store bad) and unbelievable. There are several of these scenes I just ended up fast forwarding through. I try to be a little forgiving with my books but this one just didn't do it for me, I would classify this "romance" and not "fiction". Glad it was on sale but won't be listening to the rest of the series. NOW FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO LOVE "Oh his rippling muscles and amazing good looks and incredible-only-cares-about-me-being-satisified sex (in detail) even though he's rich and I'm just a divorced hooker with a son and happily ever after - yada yada yada" and don't really care about Fallen Angels, this book is for you! Get up off the couch, turn off the TV and put down the Chocolate Chip Mint ice cream and do the download! Me, I'll wait for the next Presidents' Vampire. Thanks.
