Nothing comes between Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) and her bargains. Neither act of God nor budget crunch can shatter her dreams of wall-to-wall Prada. Every milestone in her well-shopped life (travel, long-lost sister, marriage, pregnancy) inspires new vistas to explore in the name of retail therapy. But now she faces her greatest little challenge yet: Becky’s two-year-old daughter, Minnie. Her favorite word is “MINE!”

    Story
Where does Mini Shopaholic rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook as I love chick lit. I love hearing how the heroine thinks and the letters that are written back to her from others. Maybe it helps that I am not a shopaholic, so I find it very funny. I am certainly not a qualified critic of English literature, but I know what draws me in and keeps me entertained as I perform crafts such as sewing while I listen.

What did you like best about this story?

The way everything tends to work out for the heroine, despite her quirky way of thinking.

What does Rosalyn Landor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Definitely the British voice. I feel as if I am listening to a funny movie.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Funny!

    Story

This is the kind of story where I listen to pass the time and keep listening because I want to hear the end, but the truth is, it's not grabbing me to listen more. Both I and my teenage daughter had some difficulty with understanding the scene and characters in the first third of the book. I did not find it to be entertaining.

Generations of werewolves have been secretly residing in a secluded valley a stones throw from Grundy, Alaska. So when a snooping Outsider comes to Grundy to investigate rumors of lycanthropic shenanigans in the area, the valleys pack alpha, Maggie Graham, resolves to chase him away, even if doing so takes a quick bite on the butt. What a pity that researcher Nick Thatcher turns out to be so drool-worthy, and that his kisses make Maggie want to sit up and beg.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I listened to this book while driving my 15 year old to a youth conference. I picked it out for my 9 year old boy who accompanied us on the 4 hour drive. My 15 year old usually listens to his own music, but he had liked this story so much when he was younger, he decided to listen along with us and that is saying something. I enjoyed the story and am proud to say that a word I invented when I was a teenager is still used in my own community. It is a nickname for the local college.

Sixteen-year-old Julia Whitmire appeared to have everything: a famous father, a luxurious Manhattan town house, a coveted spot at the elite Casden prep school. When she is found dead in her bathtub, a handwritten suicide note left on her bed, her parents insist that their daughter would never take her own life. In 1954, in a remote South American village, a four-year-old girl was abducted and then abandoned deep in the Colombian rainforest. So begins the incredible true story of Marina Chapman, who went on to spend several years alone in the jungle, her only family a troop of capuchin monkeys. Using instinct to guide her, she copied everything they did and soon learned to fend for herself. At around 10 years old, a completely feral Marina was returned to civilisation by hunters, who sold her as a slave to a brothel. Beaten daily and groomed to be a prostitute, she escaped - to live the perilous existence of a Colombian city street kid.

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

Has Sycamore Row turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

What three words best describe Michael Beck’s performance?

    Average, realistic accent

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    I was disappointed.
