Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare.

This wonderful story tugged at my heart strings from every direction. I laughed and cryed. I think everyone can identify with most parts of the story, but what is really remarkable is that it started the process of identifying and healing some my own deep hurts. I want to listen to it again in case I missed something the first time - some profound thoughts are expressed from a different perspective, leaving the reader a lot to reflect on.

What possesses someone to save every scrap of paper thats ever come into his home? What compulsions drive a woman like Irene, whose hoarding cost her her marriage? Or Ralph, whose imagined uses for castoff items like leaky old buckets almost lost him his house?
