I have liked Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series and this book was a very nice completion of the series. It was not an easy endeavor for Armstrong to wrap everyone's story up and give a complete and satisfying closure to the series without being to long or wordy but Armstrong accomplished her task. Parker's performance was just as solid as she has been with previous books in the series. A very enjoyable listen.

I found the story and characters to be much more solid than one of Wong's other books "Beyond the Barrier" but it wasn't as strong as some of the other zombie books I've read. The main issue I had, without giving any spoilers, was that the end was very abrupt and extremely anticlimactic. I felt a little cheated. The main characters were reasonably likable and the story flow was decent. The narrator's performance was solid. Overall I'd rate it average. Not my favorite but definitely not the worst.

Sadly, I really didn't enjoy this book at all and I love end of the world zombie stories. I had listened to another of Long's book's and it wasn't bad, so I decided to purchased this one. Honestly, it was a terrible waste of my audible credit. The main character Eric is not engaging, he doesn't seem to have much of a personality, and he makes really stupid choices. Granted this is a zombie apocalypse story so I could overlook the idiotic choices as "shock" from the destruction of Eric's world as he knew it. However, the constant repetition of thoughts as if you are just starting to listen to the book at the beginning of every paragraph was throughly unbearable. FYI Eric felt very protective of Katherine (another weak character) which he mentions like 100 times. I felt as if Long took breaks while writing this and forgot what he had already written. I actually couldn't wait for this book to be over by the time I reached Part 2. I finished the book because I kept thinking the story was going to get better...it didn't. The narrator did a good job but his strong performance couldn't save the book from it's lack of plot and toxic use of repetition.

It took me a little while to get into this book. At the very beginning the narrator's breathing seemed distracting to me and I thought I would have to give up on listening. All I can say is thank goodness I kept listening! This is by far one of the best books I have come across. The narrator (also the author) is actually perfect and soon I couldn't figure out why I had been annoyed by him in the beginning. The story is endearing and the characters are vivid. I felt such a rapport with the main character, Smithy, that I didn't want the book to end. Smithy is average, ordinary and perfectly likable. I think I still miss him a little bit. The book touches on mental illness and the effect it can have on a family, it explores the sometimes unbreakable aspects of family bonds and it shows that sometimes we can heal ourselves by just letting go. This is an excellent book and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

I was a little hesitant after reading some of the less than stellar reviews but I really liked this book. Earl is a interesting character and this book provides a great deal of his backstory. The narrator is the same as the Monster Hunter International books and he is easy to follow. This book could easily stand alone but would be more entertaining as a read in order with the rest of the MHI series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next MHI installment.

How could I not love a book that combines Superheroes and Zombies?!! This book has strong characters, an interesting plot and is well written. The narrator has a pleasant voice and delivery. I very worthwhile read. **Note**This book is a sequel to Ex-Heros and I think if you haven't read/listened to that first you may not get the full effect of the book.
