I found that as much as I wanted to learn about this pope, the author never stayed on point. We had flash forwards, flash backwards and mixed in with that were lots of key points in history. This does not flow like a regular book, but rather a bunch of bullet points that are formed together in some sort of time line with tid bits hanging off of that. I never could stay focused enough to finish the book.
So far, all of the Stephen King books rank in the top five. The narration is what makes these books come alive.
The plot moved right along. I would not call it an "edge of the seat" listen, but there were enough things going on to keep it interesting.
Well rounded book - it all worked for me
The story is about and amusement park - the name is as good as any.
I had this book on my wish list for a long time. I was worried by the description that this story would not be for me. I should have known that I have not listened to a bad King book yet. There are a couple of overlapping ideas from other books that pop up in this story, but it all works. 7hrs is not as long as most King books, but it was worth the listen.
Yes - the book is an easy listen and entertaining.
The author keeps the story moving along and does not go off on sub plots or dive in to drab details.
There were a couple of twists and turns, but the ending was worthy of the build-up
Oceans 11 meets born identity
The only negative would be the narrator. He did a good job, but you need a few chapters to get used to his style of reading. Almost like he is reluctant to be doing this if that makes sense?
The narration by Ron and Orlagh made the book
Sure - just disappointed in this one
If it was not for them, this book would have been a snoozer
Not really - nothing new here
The book took a long time getting to the point. You were never able to figure anything out which made the story even more frustrating. Everything gets summed up in the last chapter. What is supposed to be a big cliff hanger just makes you glad to be done with the book. It started off well, died in the middle and then quickly summed up in the end.
This book is 90% history lesson, 5% running in circles and 5% story. One review had said it perfectly - Dan went through a lot of trouble to describe everything to the last detail! I like the history, but not to much where it takes over the book. He wrote a book just to write a book
A great story of honor. Unbelievable tale of courage. Nice to know this can happen in our world
From start to finish the book stayed on course. Narration was perfect and that made this one enjoyable book. Highly recommended.
Note to self............In the future, disregard the first 5 reviews posted. More than likely they are from the author or friends of the author. No book is ever as good as what the first 5 posts claim. That being said, the book was interesting enough and moved along at a good pace. At times the premise was a little distracting but it worked. This is not a normal book for me to listen too, but I'm glad I did.
The story moved along at a good pace, but I felt as though Patterson thought the more plots, sub plots and another plot he could shove into one story the better it would be. There is no thought process, just a typical crime - good guy get the bad guy. This is about as basic as you can get and proof that money means more than a well written book and that James will continue to crank these out like eggs in a chicken factory. It will be a long while before I buy another Patterson book.
The narration was great and the story moved right along, but there was nothing earth shattering or surprising. I kept hoping for a twist, but alas - nothing abnormal. I will watch the movie and see what all the fuss was about.
The character development was quick and good. As things move along you can kinda see what was coming. At the point of epic development I felt that it was a little unbelievable, but I can see why that was by the end of the book. The ending did wrap things up nice and tighty.
Moved along quickly and somewhat entertaining - I enjoyed Lisa Gardners book "Gone Girl" so I had hoped this one would be as fun.
