Every schoolchild learns about the mutually beneficial dance of honeybees and flowers: The bee collects nectar and pollen to make honey and, in the process, spreads the flowers' genes far and wide. In The Botany of Desire, Michael Pollan ingeniously demonstrates how people and domesticated plants have formed a similarly reciprocal relationship.

Maybe I should have read the introduction. But I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt and work with it. I was on a 7 1/2 hour trip to New Mexico. Thought thats the best time to listen to it. Three or four chapters in, it just board me to tears. Couldnt take it any more. Was I missing something?

In the fall of 1984, high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole fell deeply, irrevocably in love. Though they were from opposite sides of the tracks, their love for one another seemed to defy the realities of life in the small town of Oriental, North Carolina. But as the summer of their senior year came to a close, unforeseen events would tear the young couple apart, setting them on radically divergent paths.

Nicolas Sparks has finally wooed me. He was able to capture the story and the characters to a point that it brought tears to my own eyes as i heard the ending. Finally a book that I can treasure. So similar to my own experiences in life of love and loss and growing in different paths, it was awesome to hear and experience. One of my favorite authors of all times. Great job.
