  • Escape

    • UNABRIDGED (22 hrs and 44 mins)
    • By Robert K. Tanenbaum
    • Narrated By Charles Leggett

Escape is a classic encounter between the forces of good and evil in human form that asks, and answers, questions of how to deal with supposedly "God-inspired" acts of murder and mayhem. In a riveting trial of garish courtroom confrontations, newly elected New York District Attorney Karp battles the "insanity of the insanity defense", as he tries to make Jessica Campbell, a rabble-rousing political science professor at NYU, pay for the murder of her three children. While Campbell claims that God told her to "send her three children to Him," it is up to Karp to prove that she was fully aware of the nature and consequences of her actions.

    "Fun and interesting"

Rats!! All the the other Tanenbaum books in are abridged. I'm an avid reader and listener. I really enjoyed this book. I will listen to any of Tanenbaum's books that offers unabridged. It is a long book that kept my interest all the way through. I recommend it to anyone that likes a good story with a lot of different and often oddball characters.

  • Gray Mountain

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 46 mins)
    • By John Grisham
    • Narrated By Catherine Taber
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The year is 2008 and Samantha Kofer's career at a huge Wall Street law firm is on the fast track - until the recession hits and she gets downsized, furloughed, escorted out of the building. Samantha, though, is one of the "lucky" associates. She's offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, after which there would be a slim chance that she'd get her old job back. In a matter of days Samantha moves from Manhattan to Brady, Virginia, population 2,200, in the heart of Appalachia, a part of the world she has only read about.

    "Can't believe the poor reviews."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to everyone.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    I loved all the characters.

What does Catherine Taber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Loved the reading.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

In fiction the truth is often told.

    Any additional comments?

I can't believe the poor reviews. Some people actually think they know what they're talking about. This was a very good book and story about actual things that are happening driven by the greed of the powerful. The characters and story was very believable. My grandparents were coal miners. My in-laws ancestry are from the back hills of VIrginia and West Virginia. I know first hand how coal mining treats people and the land. Wonderful, wonderful book.

  • Pursuit of Honor: Mitch Rapp Series

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By Vince Flynn
    • Narrated By George Guidall
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The action begins six days after a series of explosions devastated Washington, D.C., targeting the National Counterterrorism Center and killing 185 people, including public officials and CIA employees. It was a bizarre act of extreme violence that called for extreme measures on the part of elite counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp and his trusted team member, Mike Nash.

Jason J Preston says: "Another Outstandung Vince Flynn Book"
"Right wing agenda off the charts"
What disappointed you about Pursuit of Honor?

I've been a fan of Flynn's and overlooked his right wing attitude, but this went way to far.

What was most disappointing about Vince Flynn???s story?

The treatment of US private citizens

What about George Guidall???s performance did you like?

    He's always great!!!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Any additional comments?

Vince Flynn's ultra conservative views in this book are totally off the chart. I've been able to overlook it in the past. But, this book goes way to far. We are a nation of laws. The CIA IS NOT to do its operations on US citizens or US soil---PERIOD!! His writing may encourage & insight hate groups to commit some crimes. Anyone that agrees with his fantasy about what he thinks is right should seek therapy.

With two pulls of the trigger, the men who destroyed Stone's life and kept him in the shadows were finally silenced. But his freedom comes at a steep price: The assassinations he carried out prompt the highest levels of the U.S. government to unleash a massive manhunt. Behind the scenes, master spy Macklin Hayes is playing a very personal game of cat and mouse. He, more than anyone, wants Stone dead.

    "Love the Camel Club"

Another great book with my favorites Oliver Stone and the Camel Club. As with the previous books I couldn't stop listening. If you liked the others, you'll like this one. I was able to listen to it while warm and snug during a couple of days of cold and rainy weather. What a treat!

  • Up Country

    • UNABRIDGED (28 hrs and 37 mins)
    • By Nelson DeMille
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In the latest from Nelson DeMille (author of The Lion's Game), Paul Brenner is called out of CID retirement to investigate the murder 30 years ago of an army lieutenant in Vietnam. Brenner's trip up country, with a beautiful American expatriate for company, will lead him to uncover an explosive, long-buried secret.

James B says: "You Must Read Up Country"

I served during Vietnam in U. S. Naval Security. I have very mixed feelings about the war. I'm an avid reader and listener, but this is the first book I've read about the Vietnam War. This is because of those personal mixed emotions. I'm very happy I listened to Up Country. It has affected me deeply. And, confirmed to me of the insanity of both Vietnam and the United States during that horrible time that now has become history. I highly recommend this book to anyone. Especially to anyone that lived through that time. It also makes me wonder about the books that will be written 20 or 30 years after the insanity of Iraq. I love my country, and I'm happy that I was of service to it. I would do it again. I just hope that one day we can learn from our mistakes and stop asking that our young men and women live and die through what was shown in this wonderful book.

    "Wonderful story"

I listen to A LOT of books on This and Golden Compass received great ratings except for those who wrote a review. I see this often. I guess we have some literary critics who haunt :) I found The Golden Compass and this book wonderful stories. The narration on both were great, and the music didn't bother me a bit. I'm starting the 3rd book with great expectation. If you like a well read, great stories then these books are for you.

    "Loved it"

I listen to a lot of books from Audible. I adored this book. It may be a little simple and predictable, but it is written in such a wonderful way that kept me listening. The main character is a man that I would like to be. Yes it has a wonderful ending, and I loved it. I knew how it would end, but that was one of the things I enjoyed most. If you like a good story about good people against bad poeple. This is for you. I highly recommend this book. The narrator was awesome.
