Throughout the course of his ordeal battling esophageal cancer, Christopher Hitchens adamantly and bravely refused the solace of religion, preferring to confront death with both eyes open. In this riveting account of his affliction, Hitchens poignantly describes the torments of illness, discusses its taboos, and explores how disease transforms experience and changes our relationship to the world around us. By turns personal and philosophical, Hitchens embraces the full panoply of human emotions as cancer invades his body and compels him to grapple with the enigma of death.

Would you listen to Mortality again? Why?

Yes. Well written, expresses the reality of the battle of the human spirit when faced with its mortality, specifically cancer.

What did you like best about this story?

Very factual and real. I could feel his pain and his anguish.

What about Simon Prebble’s performance did you like?

Very well done, cognicent of the late writer himself.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The afterward by Christopher's wife.. very difficult not to break down with her. My heart goes out to her.

    Any additional comments?

I am in the medical field and was moved and enlightened by Christopher's ability to express and describe his emotions and consequences. He is a huge loss to talent.

What would have made The Darkest Kiss better?

The narrator is WAY too soft spoken and his overly soft voice does not correlate well with the story. I needed to go out and get the book as I was nauseated listening to a terrible voice.

What other book might you compare The Darkest Kiss to and why?

In the same genre as Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark, only those books have an outstanding narrator.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Max Bellmore?

Someone with a DEEPER and MANLIER voice. He is way way way way way too soft spoken! It is seriously annoying.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment at the narrator. The actual book I read on my own... all kinds of emotions as great story.

    Any additional comments?

The audiobooks, ALL OF THEM, are ruined for me when this narrator is reading them. I had to go out and get the hard copies to enjoy.

    Story
Would you consider the audio edition of Crave the Night to be better than the print version?

Not sure. I was not crazy about the audio narrator, as too monotone. The story has a few twists and turns, as well as a relationship that required more emotion in the narration. She made it more boring than exciting.

What did you like best about this story?

The complexity between the evolution of the mating between Nathan and Jordanna. Also, love Jordanna's story.

What three words best describe Hillary Huber’s performance?

    Monotone, boring, sleepy.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I would not try to make a movie out of this as Hollywood would likely ruin it!

    Any additional comments?

Great story, very hot. I liked the print edition way better. A different audio narrator would have improved the audio, yet great story!

Where does Carnal Secrets rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is hot and fun! The story is really good and keeps you on the edge, consistently wanting to know what happens next.

What did you like best about this story?

The complexity of the developing relationship between the two main characters, There was a lot of depth there and the twists and turns in the relationship kept it interesting.

Have you listened to any of Jill Redfield’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have and just as good. Great for audiobook.. really brings the book 'to life'.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

***Spoiler alert***: When Shai confronts Nick as he is trying to leave again, tricks him, and begins to claim him... so emotional and very intense.

    Story
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I am not sure. I loved The Night Huntress Series due to its originality. This story had the same story line as 'Underworld: Awakening"... The fact that this is the last book in the series does not make sense... the ending feels incomplete, like the author just ran out of ideas so decided to end it with book 7. I am disappointed with this one. Once again, weird similarity to a Vampire movie in the Underworld movie series.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting was the experimentation on subject A80. The least was that Cat and Bones were boring as so predictable.

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Just as good. She always does a great job.

Was Up from the Grave worth the listening time?

It was as it was a little over 8hrs and not longer, yet not an original story... very disappointing.

    Any additional comments?

The series ending now is very disappointing and does not make sense. Soooo many unanswered questions at the end of this book. Sad.

Would you try another book from Veronica Roth and/or Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford ?

I am hard pressed to say no, yet this third book was ALL over the place and the plot is downright hypocritical and ridiculous.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Most interesting: The idea of genetic damage was intriguing, yet the way it was written about was overkill. Least interesting: the story itself, with poor character development and little sense.

What does Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Well narrated with good emotion. Easy to understand.

Was Allegiant worth the listening time?

I am not sure... this story picked up from two great books and just went downhill. Without giving away much, I did not expect a fairy tale, yet what does happen is downright hypocritical and foolish. The plot is ridiculous and overdone, as if one did not know what to do with this story. Terrible end to a trilogy.

    Any additional comments?

Be aware that this book will bring sadness and to many, disappointment. I am not sure if the author knew what to do with the third book as the plot is all over the place and more annoying than interesting. The last two hours of the book are gut-renchingly unexpected and leave me feeling empty with more questions than answers at the end of the trilogy. I am really disappointed with the third book... this trilogy went out with a flat tire!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! Great read and great story. Characters are well developed and you can't put the book down once you start! Very hot!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Chloe.. strong female. I love that she is a tomboy yet also very feminine, and she is anything but helpless.

What does Robert Petkoff bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brings the story 'to life'... he manages it really well.

What did you like best about City of Bones? What did you like least?

What I liked best: Story line interesting, esp. with variety of faeries, vampires, werewolves, shadowhunters, etc. Cool world of 'magic'. Jace is a very cool character, Clary grew on me a little. What I liked least: this is a great book if you are simply looking for adventure with mythical characters, yet what this is not is a paranormal romance. I never saw the familial relationship between Jace and Clary happening, and was disappointed by it due to the build-up of a romance between them. Author makes Simon seem like a major geek.

What other book might you compare City of Bones to and why?

It is in the genre of movies like Harry Potter, yet is several notches below the excellence of the Harry Potter series and still a different storyline with different characters.

Did Ari Graynor do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Monotone. By listening to the story is how I differentiated the characters.

Did City of Bones inspire you to do anything?

    NO.

    Any additional comments?

Great for young adolescents, yet not so great for those that love the world of paranormal romance. I only listened to this book as movie coming out. I will only read next book if the next book is made into a movie.

What did you love best about Kiss of a Demon King?

Great story line that keeps you drawn to the story, wanting more. It has a good deal of adult content yet does not step over the boundary into the porn realm.

What other book might you compare Kiss of a Demon King to and why?

Thea Harrison's elder series is the closest for me, yet still very different. This story line was its own and therefore keeps you interested.

What about Robert Petkoff’s performance did you like?

Well done! He carried it through nicely.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was hot hot hot with a great love story that starts off in a devious manner. I laughed a few times, I did not cry... yet there were moments where I can say my heart was aching for the characters.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I expected more. I found this a bland book, esp. for what may likely be considered the last book in the series (Book 12). I wanted more action and a thicker plot. Instead, I found events to be predictable and boring. The person Sookie ends up with was obvious, and I found it difficult to get through the book to finally get there. I found this to be one of her weaker books.

If you’ve listened to books by Charlaine Harris before, how does this one compare?

The same. Very good reader. She is an excellent narrator.

What does Johanna Parker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Sookie's southern charm and lots of great emotion.

Did Dead Ever After inspire you to do anything?

    No...

    Any additional comments?

Disappointing, I wanted more action and interactions between characters. There were not many exciting ones and I found this to be bland and predictable.
